Home Compounding Testimonials

I hope that by sharing this, it may put some of your minds at ease about home compounding. I have been very apprehensive about “going rogue” with medicine in my baby. A friend’s husband is a pharmacist, so I emailed asking if he saw any red flags with the Zegerid 40mg packet + 1/4tsp calcium carbonate in 16mL water “recipe” just to help put my mind at ease. In his reply, he not only said it was perfectly fine, but told me there were several good recipes to choose from and provided this link: https://www.infantreflux.org/home-compounding-recipes/
I didn’t mention this page or the website at all, he provided it all on his own. I know it’s hard to get many docs on board and I know it’s scary to mess with our babies’ medicine, but know that this really is safe (for the majority of otherwise healthy babies) and often the best thing for our little ones.
Here’s the email from the pharmacist: “Lots of ideas for making this preparation.
Pharmacists have been making it for many years usually using Sodium Bicarb 8.4%. This prep is not available to the public so the calcium carbonate powder is a good alternative

Kate R adds:
: My hubby is a pharmacist too. He’s completely on board after seeing the amazing difference in our daughter. She was a failure to thrive, below 5th percentile 8 week old due to a complete refusal to eat due to reflux pain. Well, she just had her 6 month appointment and is in the 75th percentile for height and weight. I completely attribute this jump in growth to proper PPI dosing, following the MARCI Kids Study recommendations. Go rogue, fix your own baby!
