ice cream is only ‘bad’ if baby cannot tolerate dairy products- how does he do w/ dairy products? can’t answer the rest of the question, but you might want to switch to Bufferbabies so you dont have to worry about timing of the meds: (caracream=bufferbabies):https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11191&PID=94236#94236

yes, they’re more comfortable- acid doesn’t burn- so they just ‘freely’ spit it up (don’t ‘fight’ it):

hellbennt replied to the topic Solutabs making things worse? in the forum HELP!!! 15 years, 10 months ago
is he on any other meds? the solutabs can take up to 2 weeks to ‘kick’ in so if he’s not taking anything else (like zantac, axid, pepcid or tagament), then it’s like he’s not on any relfux meds at all…the above meds (the ones listed in the parentheses) can be given 4 hrs seperate frpm the solutabs
also: solutabs need to be given on an empty…[Read more]

hellbennt replied to the topic Is the medicine making him worse?! in the forum HELP!!! 15 years, 10 months ago
welcome!
I have a lot to say…first of all:
the fact that you said the prilosec worked for 2 weeks makes me think that it was a liquid form- they are called compounds & are notorious for becoming unstable after 2 weeks. if the prevacid is the same type/form-a compound- then that’s most likely the culprit. well, that along with the dose.…[Read more] -

2nd, I would try the neocate because if it helps and you report that to the doctor he…

hellbennt replied to the topic axid dosing in the forum Medicines 15 years, 10 months ago
gotcha! it appears as though they are the same– that the max of zantac is the same as the (1) axid dose- makes me think that folks should just ask for axid, as there’s not much room to have to ‘argue?’ But I don’t know if the Physician’s or Ped’s Desk Reference has a lower dosing for axid, like it does for zantac? That’s what started me on this…[Read more]

hellbennt replied to the topic axid dosing in the forum Medicines 15 years, 10 months ago
yep- 3.5mls a day– you can also try dividing ‘unevenly’ – however works for your baby- so let’s say night time is worse, so you could try 1.5mls in the a.m. & then 2mls in the p.m- just ‘play’ with it

hellbennt replied to the topic axid dosing in the forum Medicines 15 years, 10 months ago
no laughing here! I’ll try and, as axid is not my forte, I hope others will chime in-Beth???

5mls of infant tylenol I would think?
http://www.askdrsears.com has the doses for all OTC (over the counter) medicines- go to the main page & ignore any pop-ups and then click on ‘Medicine Cabinet’ to find doses- you can find for both infant & children’s tylenol and also benedrylsounds like your ped is just trying to ‘chill’ your baby…[Read more]

hellbennt replied to the topic Help! I don't think it's reflux in the forum HELP!!! 15 years, 10 months ago
I would get a Swallow Study done. Tell your dr of your request, don’t ask.
This is where your baby is watched swallowing- how he uses or doesn’t use various muscles and whether any liquid is getting into his lungs (aspiration). The test is done by a SLP, Speech Language Pathologist- this sounds funny, because your baby isn’t talking yet, but…[Read more] -
hellbennt replied to the topic Reglan in the forum Medicines 15 years, 10 months ago
I would research reglan…it is for DGE, Delayed Gastric Emptying. Has your baby been tested for this? any reasons to think baby has this? many peds (& even GIs) give reglan ‘just because…’

hellbennt replied to the topic zegerid and zantac — 4 hr rule? in the forum HELP!!! 15 years, 10 months ago
I would say that yes zantac & zegerid need to be spaced apart. there is prilosec, a PPI, in zegerid and zantac is another ‘kind’ of med. so yes, try for 4hrs but, if you’re desperate, then see what 2 hrs does- our ped GI told us 2 hours and it was fine for us- but the majority of drs of people posting here have said up to 5 hrs- so I usually post…[Read more]

hellbennt replied to the topic what can you do if you just can't get meds? in the forum HELP!!! 15 years, 10 months ago
I just looked at your signature, and baby isn’t even on a PPI yet- so I’d start there
you can (I just read a post today- but check it out yourself) order Bufferbabies and use OTC prilosec with it!
you can go to your dr & ask for rx of prevacid capsules (for yourself) and order bufferbabies (NOT TELLING YOU TO DO…[Read more]

hellbennt replied to the topic Buffer Babies – Which meds? in the forum HELP!!! 15 years, 10 months ago
we first used prilosec then we switched to prevacid w/ the bufferbabies (then called caracream)- the prilosec is more bitter mixed w/ bufferbabies than the prevacid.
I don’t think you can use OTC prilosec w/ your baby? something about the enteric coating? not sure how you’d dissolve it- I know you cannot crush it…well, you probably can use the…[Read more] - Load More
