I was wondering if anyone had better results with Zegerid, or if Prevacid will work just as well. My ds is 4 months old, and he just went for his check-up today. He has been on Zantac 1 mL twice a day, but his symptoms are starting to worsen. The Dr. wrote a prescription to start him on Zegerid 20mg (1/2 packet a day). I had already looked on Marci-kids website and done some research on it. It really sounds like a wonder drug, and it’s an immediate released med, so you don’t have to give it on an empty stomach!
The problem is, is that it costs about $200 for 30 packets!! I’m not sure how much the Prevacid costs, but I’m sure its cheaper. Before I call the Dr. back, I wanted to see if anyone had any info or advice. I want the best for my ds, BUT I would also like the most reasonably priced med. Also, what form of Prevacid does everyone recommend? I was leaning towards the solutabs, since the compounded suspensions are less effective. Thanks again for any advice you have to offer!September 29, 2008 at 8:10 pm #57191AnonymousInactiveI guess the one thing that all the Zegerid moms like is that you don’t have to time around meals. We LOVED the solutabs in this house, but I almost bet if we had used Zegerid we would have loved it as well. But we only used prevacid and for us it worked. I would call the pharmacy and ask them the cost of the prevacid and then if cost is an issue I would go with which ever is cheaper and go from there. Just my thoughts though. Good Luck. I can’t tell you if that dose is good or not as I am not familiar with Zegerid dosing, but I hope one of those moms will chime in for help with that.

My ds is only getting 10 mg (1/4 packet) daily, so 30 packets will last us 4 months. The cheapest I found was $155 which is reasonable for 4 months.
I can’t wait to get him started on it…I just hope he has good results.Wish us luck!October 1, 2008 at 9:14 am #57282AnonymousInactiveI used to be around these boards alot when Abby was a baby. She was on Zegerid and just wanted you to know there is a $30.00 off coupon at http://www.zegerid.com that you can use over and over. Maybe you already knew about it but just thought I would let you know if you didn’t. Really saved us a lot of money.
Good luck with the Zegerid – it was great for us!!Robin -
