Zantac officially wore off

I started on April 1st with the Zantac and it is the 15th and it has totally wore off. I have her 2 month check up today and I am going to see if the Dr. will put her on the Zegerid and if not the Previcid. Hopefully I can get the right dosage. This is so complicated. This is a problem where you feel you have no control over, don’t know if there is a solution, don’t know if and when it will go away and you just lose hope, faith and any other positive feelings.

I was always such a positive person and this has made me see the glass as half empty – ugh! I have always been strong and this is totally breaking me down.

She has been screaming in pain, won’t sleep and is now completely overtired and cranky plus the being in pain – great mix! Everytime she is sleeping, I put her down and she spits up and then screams and I have to pick her up again. She is going to be a complete maniac at the Dr.’s office. I am dreading taking her out. Keep your fingers crossed and say some prayers for me.

Good luck! I hate to say this, but it’s probably better if she is a maniac in the doc’c office. That way he/she can see first hand how the Zantac’s working (NOT) for you. Sending positive Zegrid vibes your way! You are doing a great job! HUGS to you

Well, I went to the Doctor. Horrible Experience. I thought my appointment was with the Dr. I had last time but another Dr. comes in, Isabella was acting like a maniac since we walked in, I was crying because she was being so horrible and I was upset – I had one good week with my daughter so far, 1 week, and now she was back to the way she was. It is very upsetting. I felt we were finally bonding and that it was taken away from me. Well, he wouldnt prescribe me ANY PPI, he said none of them are approved for infants, he wouldnt up the dosage of Zantac either. He wouldnt even look at the research from Marci Kids that I brought in. He tells me my kid is colicky. So I say “Do you know this for sure she is just “colicky”?” And he said “No, but if you want go see a specialist.” So then he asks me if I am on any medication and I say yes I am taking Wellbutrin but it isnt working for me and I don’t think any medication will work for me. I think the only thing that will work is my child getting better. Then he asks me if I am talking to anyone, I tell him I am not. He tells me that he suggests I go see a psycharist (sp?). Can you believe this?????? I said “Excuse me, did you really just say that to me? I think it is 100% normal to be crying – I am a new Mom, my daughter is in pain and I can’t help her and you won’t do anything for me. Yes, Im upset!” WTF – I cant believe this guy! So, I told him I don’t want to speak with him and to please get the other Dr. in here. So the nurse comes in and asked me what happened and I told her what he said and she couldn’t believe that was said to me. Then my original Dr. came in and she apologized for what the other Dr. said and told me to switch formula to Allimentum RTF (she is on Nutramigen now). She said some children do better with that formula. And for me to wait 2 weeks and come back and if she isnt any better then I should go see a specialist. She was a little concerned because my daughter only put on .5 oz since she last saw her. But, she said that kids usually outgrow this and that I should at least give it a couple of weeks. That she sees most of the time that it just disappears one day. She wouldnt up the dosage of Zantac either and said it is working even though I don’t think it is.

I am so confused now. Should I wait, should I go to a specialist now? I don’t know what to do.

This has been a horrible day. I am sick to my stomach.

I hope the doctor is sympathetic! I remember those hopeless days all too well. It seems like things will never get better, but they do, however slowly but surely. Hang in there. Let us know how the appt. went.

I am not a medical professional & I am not telling you to take matters into your own hands, but I can help you figure out the max zantac dose for your baby’s weight …

Well, they won’t give me enough so I cant give her the max amount or I will run out. I have already been giving her a little more and I am going to run out before I can get my next script so…

I think for now I am going to try adding in some Mylanta Supreme? I don’t know what else to do.

That doctor is a no good “bleep”!

Personally I’d make an appointment with a specialist right away… you can always cancel if things improve.

I agree with what your other doc said about Alimentum RTF. I’ve seen it mentioned on this board by a few moms that there babies did lousy on Nutramigen (especially the powder) because of the high corn content….some babies react to corn. Alimentum RTF is corn free.

You should tell that “bleeping” doctor that only a handful of drugs are FDA approved for children but they are used anyway. He knows this, he just doesn’t know that some members of the public also know this. The FDA does not like to do trials on children under two, so they cannot approve drugs for children under 2, but many, many drugs are prescribed and used safely anyway for infants and toddlers, and it is not against the FDA to prescribe these meds, just not approved by the FDA.

You could email or call Dr. Phillips and ask him to call his stupid doctor, but this doctor seems rather arrogant so that may not help, but Dr. P has called other docs and swayed them to try PPI’s for babies on this board. Maybe your original doctor who is more receptive and humane will listen to Dr. P.

Good luck. Keep trying. It took me weeks to get Myles doctor to prescribe the marci-kids dose of Prevavid, but once he was on it he was a new kid!! It’s worth every aggravating moment and every ounce of strength you have to fight for what your baby needs!!

Thanks Christine. Yeah, that Dr. was something else. I think I will go ahead and make an appointment with a GI and then cancel it if things improve – that is a great idea. Thank you.

I don’t think either of them will listen because the Dr. that I like, her daughter just grew out of it at 3 months and she thinks that all babies will grow out of it. I really like her but just not for this problem. I guess only a specialist can really help me out with this.

It is so strange my baby’s tummy is so sensitive and no one in my family or my husbands family has sensitive stomachs. My husband and his family are Moroccan and they eat all kinds of SUPER hot foods and everything. I don’t know where Isabella got this from.

She is also pretty dark skinned and usually fairer skinned babies and adults have sensitive skin and she has real sensitive skin too.

She is just a sensitive little thing.
