has anyone experimented with splitting the Zantac doses into more than 3 a day. I don’t mean increasing dose – just splitting it more. The reason that I ask is that Tyler eats 6 times a day now since we reduced each feeding to 5 oz to help with spitting. He currently takes 1ml 3 times a day (which I increased to 1.5 ml today), It seems that he does much better on the feeds that immediately follow his zantac dosage. I was wondering if I could spread out the effect over the whole day.

I’m all for splitting up doses, but I don’t know…couldn’t hurt to try- you’d probably see the effects pretty quickly as to whether or not it’s working…
have you tried mylanta cherry supreme? many parents give this before a feeding…maybe this would work at the times you don’t give zantac?

I did the math from other posts that I have seen on the dosing of Zantac. Tyler was prescribed 1 ml 3 times a day, but that was a month ago and he was smaller. We did not up the dose ecause we decided to try the prevacid which as you saw on my other post was a nightmare. We will probably try another PPI once we see a GI (hopefully next week) but until then I want to up the Zantac.
Based on the post he could get up to 5ml per day. To be conservative I am just going to do 4ml and at this point split it into 4 doses.
He eats 6 times a day but it is the damnest thing. His 6 am feeding he eats still swaddled and half asleep and he never refluxes or arches. He always burps easily and they are dry and he goes back to sleep with no problems. He also never refluxes at his last feeding before he goes to bed. He also is swaddled and half asleep and it is the same thing. He goes in the crib about 30 minutes after the feed and lays flat ( he sleeps on his left side though) and never refluxes etc. It is so strange. If I layed him down flat 30 minutes after a feed during the day it would be a nightmare. Anyway since he does not seem to need it as much for those feeds I am just going to give it at the other 4 and see how that goes.
I am hoping that when we get meds right that we can go back to feeding more at each feeding and reduce the number of feedings for the day. He will not sleep through the night unless he has 30 oz in him. Since we reduced feeds to 5 oz to help control spitting and he really can’t eat closer than 3 hours apart that means he has to eat 6 times a day which puts his last feed at around 8-9. He is asleep by 7:00 so I have to get him up for the final feeding. It is a real pain. If we can get to feeding 6 oz at each feeding we can just do 5 and he will be done eating by 6:00. He will happily eat 6 oz or more at a feeding but the after affects are not good right now. And since we can’t even get the cereal to work for him with solids it will be a while till we can depend on a boost from that.
PS – I meant to put this original post in medacine not products. OOPS

I called ped and Glaxo Smithkline and both said that I could dose 4 times a day. Glaxo recommended no closer than 3 hours apprart as that is how long it takes body to begin to absorb. It would make sense however that since babies absorb PPI faster they may also the zantac, but I am going to stick to the 3 hour interval. I did it today and it is hard to tell for sure the result at Tyler is recovering from the explosize bowel movements on Prevacid and seemed constipated today. So he cried much more than normal. I think he also has a bit of cold as both my Hubby and I were sick and he seems congested and hoarse. Hard to tell if cold or if his Protein Intol and Reflux caused it. But he has never had that before. He did actually spit a bit more than before but that may be from the nasal drip. I will say that although he seemed unconfortable with constipation and gas – he did not arch at all today which is a first. Who knows if it will last. Everytime something works and I think I have it figured out – it does not last. I am starting to learn ( or at least I think so – it is all such a guessing game) He seems to cry with gas, constipation, irritable bowels etc. He seems to arch and scream with the reflux. The gas, bowels, etc makes him much more miserable than the reflux
