I made “muddy buddies” for kaden today (rice chex covered in melted organic PB, chocolate chips and confectioners sugar), I have been giving him a few here and there for pooping on the potty. I did my best to keep a watchful eye on Landen all day, but with all the running back and forth to the potty (new potty trained boy here) Landen somehow got hold of a muddy buddy. He is now COVERED in red prickly rash, a few hives and patches of exzema on his forearms and legs. His trunk and around his mouth is where the rash and hives are. Is it more likely for him to be allergic to PB or Chocolate? He’s intolerant to rice, so I don’t think the chex caused this “allergic” type reaction.

To add even more confusion, landen had lots of whole wheat pasta for dinner too. So now I also wonder about wheat. *sigh*

Goodness, my first guess would be the peanut butter when you say the hives and mouth. I have a friend whose lo has the same reaction with peanut butter. Have you given him any benadryl? (probably a silly question) but I would def give him a dose if you haven’t.

Oooh, I LOVE muddy buddies. My mom calls them “dog food”. Now I’m hungry and gonna have to make some.

Beth- I did give Benadryl. I am actually getting low on that stuff, but had enough to give him a dose. I am going to be nervous tonight as he sleeps, although I don’t think his reaction was too severe, mostly skin and gosh I hope it won’t flare up the reflux…

Kristin- muddy buddies rock!! I’ve also heard it being referred to as “puppy chow” and “monkey munch”. It is totally addictive.

i’ve never heard of this, but sounds awesome!!! Yum! Awful about the reaction. I would def. call the doc just so it will be in his “medical records” not necessarily to bring him in though. How is Landen today?

Landen’s hives have cleared up but the red fine prickly rash has gone to a more skin-toned color but is still all over him. His demeaner is ok, acting normal otherwise! Thanks for asking. We are seeing an allergist in July for skin prick testing. I hope it will give us some accurate answers! I am going to call his pedi today to report it for his records. Good idea!

Thanks for the link, Jill! I will make these this weekend.

Good luck at the allergist. Dylan came up allergic to grass and dust mites at his skin prick test and her was not yet 2, so hopefully you will get answers and know where to go. We never had either child come up as “food allergic” to anything, but I know Dylan is still intolerant to many things. With the hives reaction, you will probably get to see exactly what Landen is allergic to.

I am glad that Landen is better today. I am also glad you had enough benadryl on hand. That stuff is my best friend some nights with all the allergens in the air these days. He had gotten better and now that grass pollen is high we are back to square one… literally snot all down his face today… fun fun fun. I hope your allergy appointment goes well. ours isn’t until August which is good since they want him off his Zyrtec for 10days.. which I think is excessive.. but oh well. Keep us posted on how Landen is doing.
