Hello everyone,
So, Gabby just got on 15 mg of prevacid and I’m hoping this is the miracle cure for her. The last week her feedings have gone down, not drastically but each day seems to be a little less and I’m worried. Last week she was eating around 19oz which is still a little bit under what hte ped says (22 – 24oz). She went from 19, to 18, 17, 16.5, and now is eating around 15. Today at 1 in the afternoon she’s had only 3 oz (1 oz at 8:30 and 2 at 11:30) . We are adding 1 TBSP of rice per 2 ounces and I know that packs on some calories but of course I’d like her to take more formula. She’s 11 lbs right now,
So how much are your kids eating? I almost wish she was a comfort feeder because I’m worried she’s not getting enough. This past week I struggled to get those ounces into her because if she had her way she would have only eaten 1/2 to 1 ounce each feeding. I’m basically force feeding her from time to time, keepign the bottle in her mouth when she’s trying to push it out with her tongue. There are times when she cries when I try to put the bottle back in her mouth and I try to refrain from pushing at that point because I’m terrified of a feeding aversion.
She did gain 4.5 oz this week which is good. I check every week on a hospital scale since I’m horribly paranoid. I’m just afraid she’s on a downward spiral with not wanting to eat. I’m hoping there are moms that can give me some insight on this.

Carter typically will take only 15 to 20 ounces of formula a day, but we were thickening with 4 tbsp of oatmeal to 5 ounces of formula. We are down to two bottles a day like that and we are now doing cereal on the spoon, and unthickened formula 2x a day. He still is only getting between 15 and 20 ounces of formula, though, and it seems to be enough.

Only one bottle was thickened, so he was only getting about 2-3 tbs of cereal. Some babies just don’t need that much.
My girls were not big eaters as infants either.
If she’s gaining I wouldn’t worry about the amount she’s eating. Just watch to be sure she is getting pain relief from her meds, and if not I’d ask for an increase in her dose.
