Ok here’s the short form of what’s gone on with our daughter:
– born 9 days post due date – 10lbs even – homebirth – no problems
– nursed like a champ from 2 seconds after being born
– 18lbs at six months – chunky monkey baby
– started solids at 6 months – home made veggies, a bit of meat, didn’t
like any cereals – choked on everything, gave up for two weeks and
tried again and again– 9 months – still 18lbs and mama thinks there’s something wrong
– 9 months sick with flu – seen at hospital – tested wbc and urine – no problems – told to get a referral to OT and peditrician
– saw GP at 10 months (still 18lbs) – our son just started preschool –
dr asks “how aggressive do you want to me Mom?” – not being a big
believer in the medical field I say “not very” and sit back, although
in my heart I think she’s in pain, I’m giving Advil at least once a day– see GP three more times between September and December, nothing
found, I finally ask for another urine analysis in December – major UTI
found – treated with Amoxicillan– still clingy and seems in pain after the meds, see the doctors again
– they tell me get a peditrician, consider weaning and don’t cosleep –
we are perpetuating the “problems”– January – ultrasound of kidneys comes back fine
– January – she gets into my husband’s low dose asprin – back in the hospital for charcoal
– January (1 year and 18lbs) – stroller breaks fail, she’s not strapped
in and the stroller with her in it falls off a 18 inch curb – major
contusion on her head, back in the hospital for observation –
everything’s fine– February – falls out of high chair – hubby catches her and dislocates
her elbow and wrist saving her – back in the hospital for xrays and
relocation– March (still 18 lbs) – falls off chair and hits her jaw, knocks a newly hatched molar clean out
– March – I have an abcessed tooth – need IV antibiotics – they put me
on clindimyacin despite the fact that I’ve told them I’m nursing..– April – 18lbs ) Lacey gets c-diff from me being on the IV meds and
also gets salmonella from my husband’s cooking while I’m sick, also she
has another UTI which we had been testing biweekly for – nothing the
week before, now raging UTI – fever of 104.3 auxillary – by the time I
get her to the hospital she’s too dry to get an IV into… she has
febrile seizures lasting 7 to 9 minutes… 10 days in the hospital and
she’s down to 17lbs – leave on profilactic antibiotics– May – we finally get to see the pediatrician – she does all sorts of
test and excited about getting down to the base of the problem. DMSA scan done, no renal scarring.– June – the tests come back, nothing conclusive – we ask for a bone
scan to rule out a bone infection in her jaw due to the tooth being
knocked out, she’s fussy, clingy and running a low grade fever.. no
bone scan granted– July – 18 months (19lbs) – VCUG done, diagnosed with grade 2 to 3
bilateral kidney reflux, doctor admits that it is not the cause of
FTT. Admitted to the hospital for observation –
CF testing done, taken off profilactic antibiotics (may be a reaction
to the Surprax) – nothing found – exhausted that hospital – dr’s
recommend going to Children’s Hospital (no beds were avaiable initially)– August – 19lbs we fire her pediatrician – never came to see her in
the hospital – abandon the medical procedures and start with
naturopath/homeopath – diagnosed with severe allergies (blood test) to
eggs, cow dairy and garlic, given high doses of probiotics, vitamin c
and bladder support remedy – removed allergins from her diet and added
digestive enzymes.– December – 20lbs no real change in her behaviour despite three months
on new system – we add eggs, dairy and garlic back into her diet – no
real change – catches pertussis – start seeing new pediatrician – and
pediatric endocrinologist– January (2 years old) 21lbs – no diagnosis from endocrinology tests
– February – 22lbs – develops the flu (really has
only throw up two or three times her whole life) I take her to dr for a
quick look, she says go to ER for IV fluids – we get there and she
starts throwing up bile – we get admitted for five days – they do the
CF test again and recommend an upper GI and barrium swallow– March – we do the upper GI and barrium swallow, nothing found
– April – 22lbs – we see pediatrician for measuring, etc. I ask for a fat analysis on stool – comes back super high in fat
– April – out of country on vacation California/Mexico – develops fever
of almost 105.0 take her to ER because we were supposed to go to Mexico
on business and if it’s bacterial I don’t want to take her – determined
that it’s viral– May – 22lbs – see the GI specialist who we present with these symptoms from head to toe:
– cradle cap still
– hair grows slowly, what there is of it is brittle and breaks off easily, especially in the back
– excessive ear wax
– limited or no appetite
– distended abdomen (see looks seven months pregnant for her size)
– still in size 2 diapers
– pimples (boils) on diaper line (mostly potty trained, however at night and for naps she still wears one)
– hard, dark, difficult to pass stools without the digestive enzymes
– still in size 5 shoes (since January 2006)
– doesn’t sleep soundly
– very clingy/needy of Mama
– would rather breastfeed that eat
– prefers fruit and veggies to all other foods
He says he thinks she has “many small problems” starting with silent reflux – starts her on 10 mg
Omeprazole suspension once a day with grape flavouring. We’re doing a 72 hours stool collection right now and food diary for a week. Now I find this site and I have serious concerns – I really don’t think
it’s silent reflux – I think it’s something more complicated – the
dosage of the Omeprazole is obviously too low and it’s flavoured which
compromises it’s effectiveness – not to mention it’s sweetened with
some artificial chemical which we don NOT let our family have.Is there anyone else out there that has had a similar problem once
solids were introduced? Little or no growth, low grade fevers,
pain, discomfort, etc.? Has anyone had the calabrator test to
confirm the reflux diagnosis? I am loathe to continue this med
without confirmation that that is what she has… sigh.Help!!!
Thank you,
Michelle
ps, she is not vaxed FYI
