I can’t take much more of this
The Omeprazole is just not working! We have tried the suspension (which seemed to help but tastes so bad she throws up!), the mups which did nothing and now the capsules which don’t seem to be doing anything, she is getting worse.
She may as well be on no meds, she is not sleeping, not feeding very well, arching her back, tilting her head over to the right all the time, crying all day, moaning all day if not crying
I am still giving her zantac for what its worth and now back on the Gaviscon in the hope that something will help right?
I am spacing the meds correctly and giving Omeprazole on an empty belly then feeding 30mins later.I am waiting for a call from her pead to see what can i do before i crack up anymore…..
Is it possible that the syrup works better because it has immediate effect whereas capsules/tabs are delayed? The problem is she is now on 20mg a day (the highest dose for her weight i believe although Dr P says 30mg!) and theres no way she will drink that in the syrup as it tastes sooooo bad. (trust me i tried some )
Why oh why isn’t anything working? I don’t understand it. I guess the only option is your prevacid which i think is called zoton here if the pead will give it to us but that means another 2 weeks waiting for it to kick in (or not).
Then if that doesn’t work i guess thats it?!?!?!?Any advice from parent s who have tried different meds? did you find one that worked or different types that didn’t work!!??!
I’m also waiting some caracream from the US but its not here yet and I’m not holding my breath, nothing seems to work for her

September 15, 2006 at 10:42 am #13652AnonymousInactivewell, if Dr Phillips said 30 mg and she is on 20, then her dose is too low. nothing seemed to work for my son until we followed Dr Phillips dosing recommendations.
September 15, 2006 at 10:55 am #13654AnonymousInactiveWell I’m still waiting for the pead to ring back 5 hours later so i was hoping he would say up the dose! At least we can try this before having to change meds as that would be more of a nightmare!
September 15, 2006 at 12:13 pm #13663AnonymousInactiveThe same thing happened with Myles. He did not get any lasting relief until he was on the right dose; 10 mg / 3 times daily. Too little just won’t work.
Good luck. I hope you can get her dose increased.
September 15, 2006 at 12:36 pm #13666AnonymousInactiveIts tempting just to try this myself over the weekend although i’m not sure how long a new dose would take to kick in?!
I would rather have the drs go ahead though!!! as i’m always paranoid about these things but since he hasn’t bothered to ring back even though i have left another message.
Of course she always gets bad on a Friday and we have an awful weekend
September 15, 2006 at 1:13 pm #13668AnonymousInactiveYou wouldn’t be the first to do that. I tried a higher dosage with Myles and sure enough it worked, but then I still had to convince his doctor because the prescription wouldn’t last the whole month. It’s so frustrating because the answer is right there but you don’t have the control; the doctors do.
With Myles the right dose made a significant difference pretty quickly (2 or 3 days) but the full effect didn’t ocurr until around day 10.
September 15, 2006 at 1:14 pm #13669AnonymousInactivei did it too
September 15, 2006 at 1:22 pm #13672AnonymousInactiveI did it and blamed it on dh. I said that he didn’t realize that I’d already given it to her, so he gave it to her as well. Then I said that she’d seemed so much better that we decided to try it again on purpose and things were going so well now that I just hated to try going back down. We got lucky and he agreed to write the prescription for the higher dose. Fortunately we had samples from the GI so we had enough to try it for a few days without it causing a problem.
September 15, 2006 at 2:05 pm #13678AnonymousInactiveI am guilty also – my doctor is finally to the point of saying “so what dose do you have her on now”. Just call me Doctor Robin !! He makes me mad sometimes but at least I was able to win this battle with him. Kids basically cannot be “overdosed” with a PPI so I really don’t see what the harm is. Naturally you would like to follow what the doctor says but doctor Mom is right sometimes too.
Hope things get better for you soon!!

September 15, 2006 at 2:48 pm #13682AnonymousInactivei always have done 3 doses, im afraid to even try 2.
September 15, 2006 at 3:08 pm #13683AnonymousInactiveKaelyn was on prevacid before marci kids started recommending 3 doses (or maybe they were recommending it, but Joel hadn’t started posting yet, so I didn’t know about it). So, we never tried doing 3. Kaelyn had been doing 7.5 in the morning and 7.5 at night. A lot of her issues involved nightwaking, so we doubled the night time dose. If we were doing it now, I’d probably try 3 doses.
September 15, 2006 at 3:20 pm #13684AnonymousInactiveMyles was on three doses. I don’t think two would have worked for him.
September 15, 2006 at 4:25 pm #13689AnonymousInactivethanks i think i will try it over the weekend.
i think the problem now is getting her to feed enough milk after giving the meds as she is still so uncomfy!
