So, we have been doing well. DS is 6 mo. and on
Prevacid solutabs for silent reflux. He’s 18.5lbs and on one of those
pills per day. According to the MARCI website, that isn’t enough for his
weight, but when I talked with the Dr., she mentioned studies that are being
done on people who have taken PPIs for many many years…and they have concerns
about cancer. So, that was her reason for not giving us more drugs, but I
was ok with it because DS was doing very well!SO…now we’re having some problems that I’m trying to figure out…
This last week, DS has been fussy. Not horrible…just a little
off. His sleeping has been worse, and he’s doing more crying when BFing,
he was a little constipated, and he seems slightly congested. On Friday night, he was throwing his head back
and then made a bunch of really weird cries/weird faces (scary weird). I
got him to calm down and sleep by putting the boob in his mouth. Later, I
put it together that it was Sandifer’s Syndrome. He’s had only one other episode like that (a
month ago), and we thought he was having a seizure, so we called 911. Many tests later, we learned that his brain
is normal and his physiology is normal…he just has reflux.
What’s going on? He
was doing so well (almost normal!). Now,
I feel like we’re back to square one.
This past week here are the things that are different than the other
weeks: I’ve been eating at least one peach a day, he has a rash on his face,
arms and legs (looks like pimples), and we had lots of activities with other
babies on Thursday and Friday. Should I
look more closely at my diet? I already
avoid citrus, tomatoes and spicy food.
I am going to call the doc’s office tomorrow to get an
appointment, but what do I want…more medicine? something different? (we tried prilosec and DS puked every time I
gave it to him…so that’s out.) Any
ideas?
Thank you!

They also found bone weakening and some other mild issues. But that being said. I don’t imagine that your lo will need to be on the meds for 7yrs and therefore should be fine. Our ds was only on prevacid for about 12 months total and I never hesitated at all. I might find a doc who will give you a higher dose. I would also stop the peaches, the pimple rash may not be from them, but you won’t ever know unless you cut them out. HTH.

the mystery rash is most likely excema. when you have inflammation (caused by the virus), then the body is more likely to have an inflammatory reaction to any underlying syndromes…
damn…i don’t want to give up the peaches. we bought them at a farmer’s market and they are go GOOD! what we give up for these babies, i tell ya!
thanks for your thoughts, Beth,…i hope his reflux improves in the coming week. if not, we’ll be sure to see the GI specialist and i’ll push for more drugs!!!
