Why did he get bad again?

My 8 week old son was doing so well on losec and mylanta. He was a changed baby. Happy and settling better.

3-4 days ago things started to go downhill and today he was screaming so much. He wouldn’t take the breast or the bottle.

I am so disappointed, I really though things were starting to look up and I was going to have a normal happy baby.

It is too hard seeing him in this pain. He is only 8 weeks old and half of his life has been spent in pain, it’s not fair!

Hopefully the increase in his dosage will help. I have a pediatrician appt next week too.

like i said in the other post, many doctors underdose PPI’s. i would recommend showing your doc the marci-kids dosing info.

My guess is that his dose is not high enough. PPI meds at the right dose really do turn things around. I hope the appt. goes well and you can get an increase for him. Have you checked http://www.marci-kids.com to see if his dose is adeqate?

Good luck. I hope things get better soon. I know how hard it is. My first refluxer was never properly medicated and she suffered for 9 months. I wasn’t going to let that happen to my son, but I really had to fight to get him on the right dose of Prevacid.

jonah kept outgrowing his losec dose so that he was on the highest amount for his weight- we had to keep getting it adjusted with every little weight gain- we also gave him rantadine to help- and then once he was on the maximum dose of losec for his weight (probably at around 3 months or 4 months) then we switched to prevacid (and still w/ rantadine) and then just prevacid and he was fine
