HI there!
This may be in the wrong forum…not sure…but here goes. I’ll try to keep this brief.
Our wee one has had an awful time on ALL formulas. We are currently trialing neocate. Her symptoms on it are constant moaning and being very bloated. She also pants and pants and pants. Very strange. She is overall happier…but is having tons of night wakings.
Randomly (why did I do this?) I tried a few feedings on alimentum rtf. Did I mention wondering why I did this? Anyway, I did this yesterday and for half the day today and her belly hurt all the more. Why would I do that? I guess just impatience and being worried about the neocate.
She had a terrible time on dairy and was severely constipated/crampy on soy.
I called the ped today and he said either continue on w/ the alimentum rtf for the rest of the week or go back to the neocate. Why do I feel like NEITHER will work?
She is 4 months old and we are still at square one. Each feed I wonder what to feed her. I’m just so worried about her breathing. Yesterday at the ped, it was fast…but not so much that they were worried. Of course, she was calmer there than after a feed here at home.
Any advice? I’m feeling frantic and just don’t know what to give my baby.
(Oh, the positive is that her silent reflux is under control for the most part:))
Thank you!

Maybe elecare? For some reason…perhaps she’d do better on that? Ugh…who knows.
February 16, 2011 at 1:11 pm #67824hellbenntKeymastergive the neocate a good two weeks. how long has she been on it?
it needs time…February 16, 2011 at 1:21 pm #67826AnonymousInactiveHey Laura…again!
How impatient am I? Goodness. Anyway, I guess b/c it isn’t a reflux flare and a bloating/stomach thing…I’m concerned? But…yes…you are totally correct…I need to give it more time. I quickly took her off the alimentum and she is on neocate again….
I think she is on day 8-9-ish? She is just waking so much and it groaning constantly and it hasn’t really subsided which it seems it would at least a little?
Anyway…I’ve been giving her a couple of warm baths a day to calm her down and try to rub some toots out of her! It doesn’t seem to help – they are just stuck up in her tummy and only occasionally come out….
February 16, 2011 at 7:50 pm #67839hellbenntKeymastertry some mylanta cherry supreme. this can be difficult to find, so look for all ‘kinds’ of mylantas- store brands like CVS or Rite Aid or Target brands, etc.
Look for the variety that does not have any aluminum in it. It is an adult kind and it’s safe for even newborns. give in 1ml increments, up to 5mls over the course of a 24 hr period. If you see loose stools, ‘back off…’February 17, 2011 at 6:02 am #67854AnonymousInactiveI have some! We located it when Callie was really struggling w/ her reflux a couple of months ago. I haven’t used it b/c I guess I thought it was basically for acid indigestion. I just read it and it says, ‘sour stomach’. Do you think it would settle her gas/tummy ache too? I’m so not up w/ meds. Hubby and I rarely even need tylenol and our wee one takes a handful of meds. Ugh.

February 17, 2011 at 6:40 pm #67862hellbenntKeymasterdoesn’t hurt to try (yes I think it works for gas. I used to give it to ds2 who was not a refluxer- I gave it to him at every little moan, LOL)
February 17, 2011 at 9:11 pm #67866AnonymousInactiveI hate to even have to say this, but it takes 2 (sometimes 3) weeks for all of the effects of the previous formulas to leave their system. Since you reintroduced Alimentum, it could possibly take another 2 weeks from when you restarted the Neocate. We did the same thing and saw results from the beginning, but the bigger changes weren’t until well into week 2.
February 18, 2011 at 10:28 pm #67868AnonymousInactiveITA that it takes time to see results. When starting an elemental formula, like Neocate, it’s common to see symptoms flare that is why it’s really important that you give the formula at least 2 weeks to start working. Right now your LOs insides are all torn up from the milk proteins and that takes time to heal. I know from my personal experience it took my LO a good 3-4 wks to be completely symptom free. GL and keep us posted!
