I mean free from meds, not spitting up at all?
My daughter almost 5 month old, I’m looking forward for the spit up free day.
I don’t let other people to hold her, because I’m afraid that she might threw up her meal etc.
She’s on Zantac almost 2 months now but she still has some bad days.
I need encouragement mommies!
And what kind of fruit or juice to avoid to give her (for acid reflux) , I’m starting solid now.
Thanks!September 14, 2008 at 9:04 am #56555AnonymousInactiveBoth of my boys were 9 months old when they outgrew their reflux. My younger had silent reflux so he didn’t really spit up that much. As for my older I wish I could remember when he stopped spitting. If your daughter is spitting up I would discourage the solids unless you do something like oatmeal. The reason I say that is because the spit up will no longer be milk colored, but green or orange and so on. Talk about having stains everywhere. Yuck!
September 14, 2008 at 9:20 am #56557AnonymousInactiveMy first was a spitter (a PUKER, actually) and he stopped around 9 months. His reflux went pretty much undiagnosed. You know that saying “ignorance is bliss?” well, that was DH and I with Kaden. Not saying we were stupid. We were very busy working jobs in the city, we beleived our pedi, we did NOT have this board and just believed everyone when they said he had ‘colic’ and that babies just threw up everywhere. We started him on solids at 4 months and his puking was worse (just like Shelby said) it was orange, green, etc) and I could not pass down ONE bib or clothing item of his to his younger brother!!!
Landen was a silent refluxer and his pain was so bad it could not be ignored. I knew it was not colic and thank God for this board. We started solids much later. He didn’t really spit, but he outgrew the symptoms around 9-10 months old. Just an FYI- we had major reflux issues with carrots, banana, squash, green beans and peas. BUT, everyone seems to report something different with their refluxer. Some swear apples are the worse and Landen did fine with them. We did not even try juice until 1 year (I was FAR TOO SCARED) but I imagine some watered down pear juice would be the way to go!!!Good luck!September 14, 2008 at 9:29 am #56558AnonymousInactiveSarah stopped spitting up around 9-10 months old and she was completely med free at 18 months old. 18 months may seem like an eternity…but she was happy and content medicated so it wasn’t 18 months of hell or anything. Also, we weaned her REALLLLLY slowly…we started weaning around 14 months!
Hopefully the end will be near for you! Have you considered a PPI medication if you’re still seeing bad days on the zantac? Also, we started very diluted juice later than normal because I was afraid of it aggrivating her reflux. Definitely stay away from orange juice. Maybe try apple or pear juice to start?September 14, 2008 at 10:17 am #56565hellbenntKeymasteryou could hold off on solids another month (or even longer) if you see that baby isn’t handling solids. this happens a lot w/ GERDlings bcse their digestive systems tend to be very sensitive…
as far as juice goes, I personally am not one to give my babies juice- it’s my own ‘thing’ and my own personal opinion that they can get the nutrients from the actual fruits themselves. not judging anyone! just myas far as the zantac: it’s VERY weight sensitive so if baby has gained any weight then you most likely will need to increase the dose.10mgs per kilo is the max Zantac dosing- my/other’s question (has axid dose too): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9539&PID=82914#82914hellbennt2008-09-14 10:18:13
September 14, 2008 at 12:23 pm #56569AnonymousInactiveThanks mommies!
I’m soooo looking for the day my dd stop spit up.
Oh for Zantac, I don’t know how to up her dose.
She’s on 1 ml twice a day and now she almost 17lbs.
And can I give her prune juice for constipation?September 14, 2008 at 12:25 pm #56570AnonymousInactiveI know “ignorance is a bliss”, but my dd can’t be ignored, since her feeding strike would tell us right away!
September 14, 2008 at 1:56 pm #56575AnonymousInactiveCooper stopped spitting around 10 months. We started weaning meds at 14 months and have been off meds since 16 months.
September 14, 2008 at 2:49 pm #56580hellbenntKeymasterWhat formula is your baby on?
(If you go to the upper right hand corner of this screen & click on ‘settings’ and then ‘update profile’ and then ‘signature’ you can put info about your baby so we don’t have to keep asking you– baby’s age, meds, doses of meds, formula (what formula) or breastfed, probiotics, etc.)I ask because the constipation screams to me of MSPI…Sheri’s constipation remedies for non solids baby (solution p2): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9263&PN=2
also, if you’re not using probiotics, it’s something to look into:Probiotics, brands used: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8970&PN=1
ok zantac dose:
17lbs is 7.7 kilos
max zantac dose is 10mgs per kilo so
7.7 x 10 = 77mgs total for the day of zantac
bottle should read 15mgs/ml (go check)
so 77 divided by 15 = 5.1mls a day!right now you’re giving 2mls!so you have room to increase!!!!September 14, 2008 at 3:08 pm #56581AnonymousInactiveMy dd is breastfed and soy formula 50/50.
Thank you for the zantac dose!September 14, 2008 at 3:29 pm #56582AnonymousInactiveSoy is bad about constipating. We also tryed soy formula with my first and it made it horrible for him.
We tryed everything for Luke, prune juice, kayro syrup, sapastories (sp), special medication for constipation, you name it we tryed it. What eventually worked for Luke was taking him to a good family chiropractor. She is the only one that did any good for him. He had been pulled out with a vaccum at birth and the chiropractor showed us how is bum crack was off to the side. Something we had never noticed since we never layed him on his belly and looked there. After a few adjustments his bum crack was back to normal and he was finally going on his own. She told us she has seen many patients that were 8 and 9 that still had to use something to help them go because their body got used to the meds doing it for them. Once they started going to her though they were able to stop all meds. That is just my two cents though. My husband and I are crunchy so we prefer more natural practices. Actually Luke and his reflux are mainly what got us to this point. The chiro has helped us more than any medical dr. ever has.Justice’smom2008-09-14 15:37:01
September 14, 2008 at 9:19 pm #56595AnonymousInactiveShelby, I heard that once you go to chiropractor, your body will likely need to go the them for the rest of your life??
I wanted to try it at the first place but people around me said that, so it scare the hell of out me though.Actually I had an easy delivery, no vacuum or anything, and no meds too.
So every time when we went to new doctor (change doctor so many times, before we find the right one…the first doctor is the stupidest doctor in the world) they always has if there’s any complication at birth etc. She’s not really constipation per se, but I exclusively pumping, so some days when she’s getting more formula, her stool firmer but when she’s getting more breastmilk, her stool is good.
She’s got average 50/50 though.I asked the doctor about PPI Prevacid, but he asked me to finish Zantac first.
She’s not showing that she’s in pain (no screaming), but she just doing the feeding strike (when on bad day), maybe drinking 5-10 oz, drinking less, spit up more, coughing like something stuck in her throat. But in good days, she drinks 25-30oz, could got spit up free for a week and no coughing at all.
Is prevacid will help all of this?

September 14, 2008 at 9:58 pm #56603AnonymousInactiveJedd is currently 22.5 months old and we consider his GRED completely under control……The thing is even when the GERD is completely under control it will NOT necessarily stop the vomitting. We still have vomit days, quite often actually, we had 2 BIG ones today alone.
Since we have gone SOOOOO long with meds and Jedd has had such a fight with his GERD we will NOT take him off all meds permanately until he can verbalize exactly how he feels. We are alos on 2 different meds to keep it control as well as an moitily meds and an allergy meds EVERYDAY. He takes a PPI and an H2blocker at 2 differnet times during the day. Prilosec and Axid. He takes Laratidine (allergy) and E-mycin.So I guess you coudl say we are the extreme case here!!!! LOLLike I said since Jedd has had SOOO many issues we will not be weanign any further. We have had success with cutting his Prilsoec in 1.2 but in the long term (we did that about 3 months ago) we have now had to add in a H2blocker to combat it.We really fel that Jedd will become a toddler who NEEDS to take meds and then an adult who will need to take meds as well.Just what we think. We serisouly don’t think he will ever outgrow his. He has had a PH study done ON meds and his acid level was just too high STILL!!!!. that is shocking!!! Esp. since the gastri contents were taken about 2 hours AFTER doseing meds. Hi sacids level should have been low at that time and they were not.We truely believe that Jedd’s Protom Pumps just flat out over produce acid WAYY too much for his body to use.At this point is a matter of managing it to keep him COMPLETELY comfortable. Permantely!!!! LOL -
