Okay so my first 2 babies had reflux and it was awful, not that I have to tell anyone here!!
My third is no where near that fussy/inconsolable, but at the same time she is fussy almost the whole time she is awake, which is more and more. The “fussy period” has pretty much grown into all day and night. She is really uncomfortable acting right after eating. Sometimes she will nod off after eating and then jerk awake crying. She seems kinda frantic a few minutes after eating, no matter how long I nurse or if I give her a bottle thinking she’s still hungry.I know I sound paranoid, but well, I just don’t know what a “normal” fussy baby does vs a baby with maybe mild reflux?? I know full tilt reflux, but this kinda seems like we are getting there in slow motion? Soes that make sense??Also, is there such thing as “normal” mucus in a BM/alimentum stool?? It’s not really seedy, but it is yellow/greenish. It’s gooey clearish globs here and there, but not alot and not every time. Thanks!TinaOctober 16, 2009 at 10:58 am #64277AnonymousInactivesounds like it could be a milk protein allergy… I would talk to your doctor.
October 17, 2009 at 2:54 pm #64290hellbenntKeymasterthere is such a thing as some normal mucous…
is she gassy? with really foul-smelling gas?
does she strain to poop and then when she finally does, it comes out soft?
these are more signs of mspi, too…
can you get to la leche league or a lactation consultant, too?January 4, 2010 at 4:23 pm #65343AnonymousInactiveWhat does mspi stand for?
January 4, 2010 at 4:45 pm #65344AnonymousInactivemilk-soy protein intolerance—-and yes, sometimes there can be normal mucous in poops caused by constipation or some vague viral infection. mucous all the time probably indicates a problem. i had alot of fussy babies, so when sylvia was born, we thought we just had another fussy baby—-but she got progressively worse until after a week we were holding her almost 24 hours a day. something was definitely different.
looking back at my next fussiest child, and knowing what i know now, i’m guessing he was MSPI and had reflux. i wasn’t nursing, had him on soy, he had very dark green diapers that almost always looked liked diarreah—-mostly color without much substance, and he had rosy red circles on his cheeks, and he spit up all the time. but, back then they assumed everything was lactose intolerance.i also had a very happy spitter who puked everywhere and was my happiest baby.kevieb2010-01-04 16:47:17

As for how I found out she had reflux and was not just fussy was when I could hear her burping up the acid. Nothing would come out of her mouth, but as soon as she would do this she would make a sour face, swallow hard, and scream. Unfortunately I didn’t find this out until she was about 3 months. But I did nurse from birth until 7 weeks, and it didn’t seem like she had a problem then.
