Did it start from birth? Or did you you have a baby who didn’t spit up BECOME a baby that did?
My first DD spit up TONS! Excess of 30 times a day! Thickening her feeds help a bit, but that’s it. This continued till 9 months old. She started this from the moment she was born and it worsened as she began taking in more and more formula.
My newborn has reflux as well, but at almost 3 weeks old does not spit up. Do you think it’s safe to assume she’ll be a silent refluxer? Or can the spit up start up.
They were both born 3 weeks early, but while my first was a peanut at 6 pounds 6 ounces, this one is a chunka weighing in at 8 pounds. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
What are your thoughts/experiences?
July 24, 2008 at 12:18 pm #54419AnonymousInactiveMy silent refluxer was born @ 38 1/2 wks & was 6lbs 9oz… he’s only 9wks old now, but still doesn’t spit up really @ all (maybe 1x every 2 days).
July 24, 2008 at 1:00 pm #54420AnonymousInactiveWe were a chunk at 39wks and 3 days at 9lbs 11oz. And he spit up pretty much from the minute he was born and it got worse until about 9 months when he gradually slowed down and then stopped around 11 months.

It was like he was more comfortable, so he didn’t try to stop it from coming up. His spitting lasted until he was about 10 months old or so.

July 24, 2008 at 4:58 pm #54437AnonymousInactiveAshlynn started the day she was born and stopped about 9-10 months.
July 24, 2008 at 6:12 pm #54439AnonymousInactiveMy DD was one who became a spitter. She started @ about 2 months old and has gotten better. She only spits up every once in a while now and is just shy of 6 months old. I’m hoping that with the changes we’re making she grows out of the reflux before the age of 1. 🙂

My younger guy (8 lbs 4oz) was born with painful silent reflux and rarely spit up until he got on a PPI drug, then he was comfy enough to spit up from time to time, but still silently swallowed it most of the time. When he was about 9 months old I noticed that I didn’t hear that gulping sound as much and by 10 months his silent reflux symptoms started disappearing enough that we could wean him from meds.jilly782008-07-24 18:36:02
July 24, 2008 at 7:00 pm #54442AnonymousInactiveMy dd (8# even) was a happy spitter. She used to blow bubbles with it. She was born at 41 weeks 4 days. She is my oldest.
My ds (9# 4oz) started refluxing the night he was born. It is silent reflux and with lots of pain if he’s not medicated well. My ds was born at 40 weeks 4 days. If he actually does spit up (which is very very rare) it is always projectile.July 24, 2008 at 7:39 pm #54445hellbenntKeymasterJuly 25, 2008 at 1:00 pm #54481AnonymousInactiveBoth of mine were spitting up within the first 24 hours of birth.
July 25, 2008 at 8:13 pm #54496AnonymousInactiveBoth of mine spit up from birth. Both were born at 38 weeks and Riley was 9lbs 1oz and Teagan was 7lbs 14oz.
July 26, 2008 at 4:12 pm #54528AnonymousInactiveBecause of silent reflux, our DD never spit up much (until recently- she finally learned to let it go). We diagnosed her because of gasping for air and choking at night vs. spit up. That was at about 4 weeks.
