Hi Everyone-
When do I know that we’ve got the right medicine in the right dosage? Will all symptoms go away or will some always be around until she out grows this? Right now we are waiting on our appointment with the Ped. GI specialist. I’m assuming we’re finally going to get a prescription for a PPI since we’ve exhausted the use of Zantac and Axid. I just want to know how I know we’re “fixed” the best we can be.Thanks in advance!StephanieSeptember 17, 2007 at 7:05 pm #42805hellbenntKeymasterthe symptoms should go away- baby may reflux but it should not be painful- so you might hear or see refluxing but it should not be followed by painful screaming or howling
many have found the months of 4-6months to be when the reflux hits it’s peak- during this time you may find that the meds need to be constantly increased but then you will find that it’s been a long time & you haven’t had to increase the meds- this is a good sign-you might also find that the reflux gets worse with teething and with shots- it might be necessary to increase meds at this timeyou also might want to think about not introducing solids until your baby is at least 6 months old, if not into her 6th month…September 17, 2007 at 8:37 pm #42810AnonymousInactiveCooper basically stopped screaming/crying unless he was hungry or sleepy. That is how I knew that we were okay. He also would spit but smile in the process so I figured it didn’t hurt anymore. He still spits a ton, but hey if he is smiling and spitting then I am a happy mama.

My sister in law has her 4 month old on zantac and she’s content because things are BETTER…but when I look at him I still think he could be MORE comfortable than he is. If that makes sense. So, it’s really your judgement on when you think your baby seems content and comfortable, but in my opinion…once things are under control then the good days should FAR outweigh the bad.
I also agree with Laura that sickness and teething can DEFINITELY throw reflux into full blown misery so watch out for that. When Sarah cut her first tooth I tried every teething remedy under the sun before it dawned on me that the excess saliva, etc…had aggravated her reflux. An increase in her meds. was all it took!

Thanks again!StephSeptember 18, 2007 at 2:22 pm #42869AnonymousInactiveYou’ll know….
The screaming will be less, and you’ll have a happier baby even though the reflux will still be there. Good luck. -
