What would you recommend?? Eli is on number 13 (and that doesn’t count double ear infections as two since they were diagnosed together) ear infection since the end of September!!! His ped finally brought up tubes, but also asked about his talking and hearing. He said he’s definitely had enough ear infections to warrant tubes. He also wanted to know how I felt about his hearing and I don’t think its been effected as far as him talking because he does say “Momma, Daddy, Hi, Ya”, and will try and repeat words after you say them such as “Yucky” and “Juggle” well Guggle So I think his hearing is okay right now. He also mentioned that summer should hopefully be here soon and that usually means the end to ear infectiions which it did for Ashton and Mikey, (my nephew). I said right now I think I am willing to put off tubes a couple more months in hopes that summer will get here and the ear infections will disappear. But what would you do??? I am not sure what is causing them, if its reflux or what. He often gets them w/ colds, but not always. (Has seemed to get more w/ colds since the RSV, but not so much before) Do you think we should just go for tubes or “wait it out??” I just don’t know anymore!! What would you do??March 21, 2006 at 9:33 am #4343AnonymousInactiveSpeaking from experience, I would definitely recommend the tubes. My son had ear infection after ear infection and always had fluid in his ears. He had the tubes put in last December (at 12 months) and knock on wood, he has not had one since! I think this is the longest stint we have ever gone without going to the ped.!! We also noticed that he was babbling more almost immediately after his surgery. I do think the fluid muffled his hearing although they did test it before his surgery and it was fine. Another thing that helped us decide to go with the tubes is he is allergic to penicillin and I did not want him to build up a resitance to the other antibiotics that we had to use all the time. My only regret is we did not do it sooner!

March 21, 2006 at 10:06 am #4346AnonymousInactiveAgree with everyone above. One of my closest friends has twins who both
had reflux and one had constant ear infections. His hearing DID show up
as affected on test but it was until after the tubes that they realized
how much. He had the tubes done at about 15 months and is now about 20
months and so far not one infection and he’s talking and babbling away.
Still not fully caught up to his brother but getting there. He’s also
sleeping better and seems happier in general – like Tiffany said, they
only wish they’d done it sooner.March 21, 2006 at 10:08 am #4348AnonymousInactiveThanx. Also thanx for mentioning that your son was allergic to pencillin because actually Eli is too and that is a good point about not building an immunity to another antibotic when they already can’t have the pencillin and boy has he been on them!! There are only 3 that he can have right now and I don’t really care for sulfa as it doesn’t seem to agree w/ him very well and we have a family history of an allergy to it as well, so it worries me when he takes it. I think I’ll call the ped and talk more to him about them.
