I am finally at the end of the 2 week elimination diet! Yahoo! I am glad to be finished but also a little nervous about adding new foods in. Dr. Sears lists a few foods to start adding back in first, but I just wondered if anyone else had any ideas? I know you are supposed to leave the “biggies” like soy and milk, wheat, etc. until the end. I would love to add another protein in, maybe pork or chicken? I would love to have some Christmas ham! I’m not a big seafood eater, so fish wouldn’t work for me.
Also, as I add new foods back in, what should I be looking for? I don’t know if Ben has any intolerances, but what are the signs? He is already a refluxer, so “refluxing” is going to occur, intolerance or not. Are there other obvious signals that a certain food is a “no go” for him?
I know it can take milk proteins up to 2 weeks to build up in the system, but are there any other proteins that do this as well?
I did add oatmeal back into my diet the other day and the only difference I notice in him is more gas. Why in the world would me eating oatmeal cause him to have gas?
Thanks for any help and/or advice!

I don’t do dairy or beef and I had to call my family to let them know. Not so that they would make dairy or beef free stuff, but just so they knew and wouldn’t feel bad that I couldn’t eat what they cooked. I told them as long as they have bread and peanut butter I am good to go, but I still feel like they think I am being picky or something. I am going to do the elim diet when I get back and I think you have asked some really great questions. It will help me to know what to do. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

December 18, 2006 at 3:38 pm #20700hellbenntKeymasterfrom the ‘main’ mspi page (stickied in the MSPI forum), go to page 2 (you’ll see ‘Google Cache’ stuff at the top of the page – scroll down). there is the best explanation of allergies & intolerances and there is a list of symptoms. Look for changes in stools and definitely in behaviour – especially sleeping…
as for what to add back, there is a link, also in the MSPI ‘main’ page- scroll down to the ‘Elimination Diet/breastfeeding section’ to find the link
what oatmeal have you added back? instant with flavorings, etc or just plain old fashioned oats? maybe just the introduction of something new is what did it? or maybe it’s gluten? I don’t know…
when I added back tomato products it was OBVIOUS 3-4 hours later- Jonah was shrieking in reflux hell…
maybe try adding in beans for protein? soy is a legume, right? so I would avoid peanuts and are green beans ‘related’ also? hmmm
so I’d do lentils or chickpeas…then you can have lentil stew and humus and stuff like that…
I don’t know enough about ham- like what’s in your Christmas ham? any nitrates, etc? I’d be careful about that kind of stuff?
I think the ‘major’ proteins like milk, soy, beef and perhaps even wheat and corn can build up, so maybe just choose one of those to add in for the next 2 weeks? I don’t know…what does your gut/instinct tell you? me, I really didn’t think Jonah was mspi…but that’s me.
