I am really not sure what to do next. I have restricted dairy and soy for at least 3 weeks now. My diet consists mostly of turkey burgers, brown rice, rice cereal, rice milk and potatoes. Two weeks ago, there was a teeny spot of blood in his diaper; it was checked and that was the only spot in the diaper- no other microscopic blood. I continued on this “diet” for another 10 days at which point I did 3 of those poop card things to check for micrscopic blood- 3 different days. The dr checked and no micrscopic blood. It’s hard to tell if there is mucas b/c his poops are so liquidy, which didn’t start until we started the previcid- we are on day 16 of the solutabs. However, the other day we were t the dr b/c of congestion issues and he noticed a bit of mucas in the poopy diaper. I had been eating a small amount of pretzels over the days prior, and that day I ate 2 soft pretzels. The days I ate pretzels, he seemed to get bubbly drool in the evenings and looking back, that did seem to happen any time I ate whole wheat bread. So the dr suggested I cut out bread/rice. His overall disposition has improved since we started the prev, but the congestion is no better, worse at night (head is elevated and cool mist humidifier is on, using saline drops. Heat is running a lot due to 20 degree nights) and sleep is def not better. Some good nights, mostly ending up with me holding him.
My questions are:Do you think I should eliminate rice and turkey to see if that helps the congestion? At this point, I am scared to eat anything and worry about my supply. If I do take out turkey, what else can I do for protein?I feel like I have no meal options except potatoes at this point!December 20, 2009 at 9:15 pm #65196AnonymousInactiveI am in the same boat as you w/ my 10 week old. I’ve been on TED for nearly 2 months and I’m still seeing lots of mucous too and STILL refluxing. THis is my 2nd time around, so I’m a little more familiar with MSPI. Right now, I am suspecting a rice intolerance in DS. I am learning that this is actually pretty common. Rice is a really hard one to take out of your diet b/c it consists of so much-rice milk, rice cake, rice cereal, rice flour. It also could be that you’re eating so MUCH of it. So, if you can try omitting just the rice to see what happens, that may help. However, I am guessing that the soft pretzel you ate was probably a big offender. You can eat lamb. In fact, lamb is probably the “safest” meat. I eat it ground and sautee it with zucchini. It’s delicious. I can’t omit anything else, so I am transitioning to Neocate which was the miracle cure for my DD.

Just try and avoid the dairy and soy until you go to the GI doc.We also had a small pin drop of blood in her stool – actually do not know if it was blood or not.I know what you mean about the whole mucus in the stool thing it is hard to tell.I have a picture of poops that I got in an email let me know if you want me to send it to you. It kind of helped me.What are your major concerns with him now?We had no nap today and I thought of you.The congestion he has could be a cold but reflux babies do have congestion issues. Mine does and she also has a lot of mucus in her vomit.December 23, 2009 at 8:00 am #65226AnonymousInactiveI know I am a freak these days!
Thanks so much for your replies-they give me some peace, so I really do appreciate it.I would love to see those pics- how crazy is that? Who knew that these days I would be interested in poop pics?I was just going to post another question about poop. I haven’t had turkey in over 24 hrs or r ice in about 3 days, and he had a thick, liquidy poop (sorry for the description) Is that all mucas or just liquidy poop?My main concerns are the proper dosing of meds (he is still silently refluxing a lot later in the day, wet burps) and the sleeping/congestion.My thought is that if we get the proper dose, the congestion will lessen.Who knows?I can’t wait for the gI doc- 12 days to go! -
