what is DGE and FPEIS

I have been reading the boards and am just curious what these stand for. Thanks.

DGE means delayed gastric empytying, meaning the stomach empties more slowly than normal. Usually, this results in the child not being very hungry because his/her stomach is still full from the last feeding.

FPIES is hard for me to explain so maybe someone will jump in to add on to my definition. It’s a food protein intolerance of the esophagus. Basically, the esophagus reacts to any food protein as if it’s fighting an allergy. So, the body isn’t accepting of any food protein except for neocate or another elemental formula.

Thanks for your reply. How does a child get diagnosed with DGE?

When my daughter had her upper gi series done, it took forever for the barium to make its way through her digestive track. They kept on telling us, come back in another 15 minutes and then we should be finished. But when we returned for the next set of xrays, the barium was not through her system.

Finally the doctor told me to feed her a bottle to get the barium moving and come back 1 hour later.

Does this sound like it could be DGE? My gi said that she checked out fine for anatomical abnormalities. Would she have told me if she had DGE? Or does an upper gi not diagnose this problem?
