This is one of those questions that, before becoming a mom, I never in a million years could imagine I would be asking. But here it goes!
Since we started Connor on neocate his poop has been all over the place – we had yellow seedy, then green seedy, then yellowish-green seedy, and now yellow kind of seedy. It all looks somewhat like his poop has looked before, but I’m just not sure what mucus looks like. Would it be clear goopy stuff like snot? Sometimes it’s a bit shiny – is that mucus?
I think we’re ok – his mood has definitely been improving (please don’t let that just be a fluke) and he’s been sleeping fine (knock on wood) – so I’m probably just overanalyzing here, but I just want to make sure I know what I’m looking for.
Thanks for answering my gross question!!!

I did a search for you. I knew we had a post with actual poop pictures and I finally found it. These are what some mucousy poops look like. I do think they look like snot. HTH some.

December 12, 2008 at 7:55 pm #59510AnonymousInactiveSorry to come in late here….the link Beth posted should help. In my experience it does resemble snot in poop. Kinda stringy too. Ick!
Anyway, I just wanted to say that it sounds like the Neocate is overhauling his system and moving the bad stuff out. Esp if his mood is improving. That is what we noticed too. I hope things continue to go well!December 12, 2008 at 8:55 pm #59511AnonymousInactiveThanks for your help – his poop today has been yellow and kind of seedy, like breastfed poop. It might be a little stringy, but I think so far it’s ok.
He had a GREAT day but has had a BAD night – lots of crying on and off since 4pm, so now I’m getting discouraged. Trying not to since it’s only been 4 days. Any words of encouragement would be welcomed, really!
December 13, 2008 at 12:32 pm #59528AnonymousInactiveIs he getting a higher dose of Prevacid than 7.5? Or is the MSPI the reason for the crying? I will always think that my son was worse reflux than MSPI, but my doc says not.

February 9, 2009 at 12:26 pm #60903AnonymousInactiveHey there –
Connor definitely still has mucous in his poop sometimes, but the neocate is DEFINITELY the right formula for him. I’d say that his mood really improved within a couple of weeks and he has been a very happy (most of the time) baby since. We had a follow up with his GI specialist about 4 weeks after starting the neocate and she said that the mucous is normal, and not to be concerned if all else is ok. His ped told us the same thing. Since the formula seems to be agreeing with him, we haven’t worried about the mucous anymore.
