As of Thursday April 20th at 3:18 pm Alexis officially became a big sister. Taylor Linh came into the world at 7lbs 8oz and 20inches. After 1 hour and 30 mins of pushing, yes, you can say this is our last child! She came out with a very fast heart rate 200, respirations irregular 70’s, and a temp of 100.2, so she was immediately taken to the NICU and started on IV fluids and antibotics. The stuck the little so many times to find a good vein for her IV not to mention the multiple heel sticks she had to endure. Well, all of her blood cultures came back negative and we finally got to take her home Monday night. She is already a poor eater, she doesn’t seem to know how to suck and swallow and not eatting very well. I truly feel we have another silent refluxer in our hands. She hiccups like crazy just like how Alexis started. Pushes her legs straight out during feedings and whips her head around like crazy with bottles. Please refresh my memory of the early signs and symptoms of reflux, and of course she is not spitting up as what the MDs classifies as “true” reflux. We have our first Peds MD appt tomorrow.

Beautiful name and so glad she is home. Sounds a lot like Marisa at
first – I pushed for over 3 (!) hours, got dehydrated and had a fever
and M had a fever too so 2 days of IV antibiotics in NICU – all
negative. She was a comfort eater though and only happy when eating
when so young. TONS of hiccups then. What formula do you have her on?Good luck with ped – keep us posted!
April 26, 2006 at 11:39 am #6877AnonymousInactiveCongratulations!!! An hour and a half of pushing…OMG- you are my hero (I only pushed 8 minutes with Hailey) but was in labour for 3 days if that balances things somehow. I’m so sorry that she’s had such a rough start, but so glad that you’re all home together now. Hopefully she doesn’t have reflux. My older one hiccupped all the time, and she was fine. Good luck, and congrats again.
April 26, 2006 at 12:20 pm #6879AnonymousInactiveCongratulations and welcome Taylor!
I pray she will not have reflux but if so at least it sounds like you are going to catch it early. The signs we saw early on besides spitting up were hiccups, arching, general fussiness (poor sleeper) and not wanting to be put on back.
Congrats again and good luck at your appt. tomorrow!
April 26, 2006 at 1:39 pm #6888AnonymousInactiveRight – as for very early symptoms, we had hiccups, extreme
crankiness/fussiness, hated to be on back, hated infant seat/carseat,
and extreme comfort eating.April 26, 2006 at 5:24 pm #6912AnonymousInactiveOh yeah… early symptoms for us were constantly pulling off the breast but then going back frantic, arching, choking on milk, milk flying out of nose, extreme irritability (those started at around 2 weeks). For the first week she was a dream….
April 26, 2006 at 7:15 pm #6922AnonymousInactiveAlexis’ symptoms also started at 2 weeks and of course she was diagnosised with colic…Thanks for refreshing my memory it is starting to come back to me how it was with her unfortunately, I think I did surpressed that part of her childhood and didn’t want to ever bring it back up, but I think we are going to with this one. UGH!
April 26, 2006 at 7:31 pm #6923AnonymousInactiveSue – Congratulation on your new baby girl! I hope that Taylor doesn’t have reflux. Brian was a comfort feeder, poor sleeper and arch back a lot, but I had no idea that he had reflux
April 26, 2006 at 7:38 pm #6925AnonymousInactiveCONGRATULATIONS!!! So glad that you have the little one at home. Alexis must be so excited.
Matthew did not start with symptoms until he was 2 weeks old or so but he would just cry and cry and cry…. we thought he could not get the gas out but i guess it was more than that. Tons of hiccups, no sleep.
April 26, 2006 at 7:58 pm #6927AnonymousInactiveCONGRATULATIONS! How wonderful for you ! Sorry to hear that you are having worries so early. Jaxon didn’t show any change in behaviour until 11 weeks (xmas day ) and it was someone flipped a switch. I do know that he was refluxing before that though and was comfort feeding (as i was nursing) . He never wanted to be parted from his precious booby once he would settle down and latch on. (he would pull on and off constantly and freak out and attack it again -i didn’t know the signs at that point.. constantly arching and so stiff) but happy and easy going.
I hope that things settle down for you and that you have lots of help and support. The early days can be overwhelming!April 26, 2006 at 9:58 pm #6952AnonymousInactiveSue ~ Congratulations!!! I’m so sorry she’s already showing signs of reflux. Hailey’s very first symptoms were difficulty in feeding and wet burps. We couldn’t feed her without having a bulb syringe near by! Keep us posted after you go to the Ped!
April 27, 2006 at 2:14 am #6968AnonymousInactiveCongrats on your new little girl! Hopefully you won’t be going through round two of reflux. Good luck with your ped appt.
April 27, 2006 at 2:45 pm #7005AnonymousInactiveCongratulations Sue! I hope all goes welll with the ped and that Taylor doesn’t have reflux as well. I can’t believe how fast time flies and that Alexis and my boys will be 2 in a few days!!! I know how busy you are right now!
