weaning off prevacid

ok, so Aidan is suposed to be off the prevacid by the end of december. I am going to ask the doc. about how to wean him off of it at his 1 year old appt. But was wondering how it is best done, I think the last time I tried it I did 7.5 2 X a day for 2 weeks, then 7.5 once a day for 2 weeks (but he was WAY to little and it was a bad idea). Does that sound about right?

We cut Colt’s dosage to two times a day and then once a day and that is where we are now. I think its working but he still needs his nighttime dose.

Joel actually said that Dr. Phillips says it’s fine to quit cold turkey; that if they still need it you’ll know in a few days. I weaned Myles anyway because I’m neurotic.

I think I cut his midday dose first (he was on three doses). Then I started giving him 7.5 mg instead of 10 mg for his am dose. Next I reduced his pm dose to 7.5 mg instead of 10mg. Then I cut the am dose. Finally I cut the pm dose. I don’t remember anymore how long I did each thing…..but the whole process took about a month.

If I had to do it again, I’d just do it cold turkey because you know within days if he can do without it or not, instead of holding your breath for weeks wondering. But that’s just me.

ahh ok cool, I think I’ll just stop all together when his rx runs out. It will be easier than weaning and I like that you’ll know in a few days if it’s a good idea or not!!!!!
