We were given 48 hours to watch it

Ilan has a bad cough and a stuffy nose. Thanks to Ariella, he’s sick too (ugh!) I took both of them to the dr today and she said that his right ear is red and she was going to go ahead and prescribe an antibiotic. I talked her into waiting for 48 hours and see if it gets better. Did you have a situation when the ear infection resolved on its own?

i haven’t, but i know that there is a new line of thinking among some doctors that alot of ear infections will clear on their own without antibiotics. a friend of ours said her husband only gave antibiotics if they were running a fever. i’ll be interested to see hoe this goes for you.

We’ve had this situation 2 (maybe 3) times w/ Brodie (the wait 48hrs to see if we should start antibx) & every time we had to start the med.

Sorry – I know that’s not what you wanted to hear but I just wanted to chime in b/c we’ve been in this situation before.

What I would do is give tylenol/motrin alternating and see if that helps. also give him some saline up the nose with every diaper change… the bacteria can’t live in the salty environment so it might help. We have never been good with the wait 48hrs rule.. but I usually hold out as long as possible before going to the doc anyway!

In our situation we were pretty sure that Jedd’s EI were being caused/aggrivated by his GERD so for him, they did not go away until he went on an ABX. For use we ended up with tubes and it was THE best thing we ever did.

Sigh! Thank you, everyone, for your responses. We’ll see tomorrow morning what the dr has to say. Keep your fingers crossed for us 🙁 I’ll keep you posted!
