Well, I guess I should have known better than to post about some good news in our lives, b/c no sooner did I post then Hailey started sneezing snot everywhere.
Last night was horrendous and today she’s covered in snot from head to toe, and so am I. This is my 6th shirt today, the last 4 due to her vomitting all over me. The reflux is so bad from the cold, she’s not eating, refusing bottles…oh the horror!!!!
But I think the worst part is that she’s SO snotty that she keeps gagging and barfing everything up. It’s so awful when you try so hard to feed them only for them to puke it up 5 minutes later- or worse, puke up the meds 5 minutes later. She was napping (on me) for a few minutes and then gagged, vomitted everywhere, started SCREAMING the most awful heartbreaking high-pitched scream, the vomit came pouring out of her nose. I couldn’t get her to stop and she just kept vomitting all over me, until I finally managed to console her. She is still whining and crying and everytime she sneezes she’s inconsolable.
This is her second cold in the past 6 weeks (the first one lasting for 3 weeks!). I don’t even know where she got the cold from as we hardly go anywhere. Must have been from Sarah. I really don’t know how I’m going to be able to make it if she picks up every germ that Sarah brings h ome. How do those of you with more than one child manage to keep the little one from picking up everything (other than the obvious handwashing)?
To make things even more fun, my husband just called and told me that he has to work until midnight tonight, so I have both kids and NO BREAK! Who needs sleep anyhow??? AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! I just keep repeating “this too shall pass, this too shall pass” over again….it will, right?
Thanks for the vent!
June 8, 2006 at 4:20 pm #9370AnonymousInactiveOh no Lori! I’m so sorry to hear that Hailey is sick. I hope she feels
better soon and hope you can get a break soon – you deserve a long
massage, hot shower and nap!June 8, 2006 at 5:30 pm #9375AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry Lori – you can’t catch a break, can you? Sure hope
Hailey feels better soon. As for not catching everything that
Sarah brings home, I’m not sure that’s possible. Even though Nate
and Zach both go to the same day care, they both seem to get everything
and not at the same time either so that we could get it over with! Anyway, lots of hugs being sent and hopefully it will pass soon!June 8, 2006 at 8:08 pm #9381AnonymousInactiveOh Lori, it is snot city here too! If I have to wipe another nose I think I am going to go crazy. I dont think there is anything much you can do to stop them getting them. My daughter brings all the germs home from daycare and she gets over them really quick and the rest of us have them for weeks. Tyler is on cold number 4 in a little over 2 months. I took him to the doctor yesterday to get his ears checked cause he was crying all night long, but everything was okay. He sounds like he is going to cough up a lung, it is just awful. Hang in there – is there any over the counter medicines you can get? We are using Dimetapp which is a decongestant that helps stop the constant runny nose, not sure if you have something similar there? Hope Hailey is feeling better soon.
June 8, 2006 at 8:30 pm #9383AnonymousInactiveAidan was born when Austin had just started Kindergarten….I gave up on trying to keep germs away after 2 months of yelling “wash your hands” every day after he got home!!! I just figure there’s absoutly NO way I can even attempt to keep the germs away…a 6 year old boy is literally a walking germ!!!! ( mud. dirt. bugs ( dead of course that’s much cooler than alive) colds, friends coming over..etc) The way I rationalize it is ok…another cold..maybe with all the colds he’s getting now, he’ll be immune to everything when he gets older!!!! big hugs to Haily and you..Aidans colds last almost that long…2 1/2 weeks usually…..I hope she feels better soon!!!!!
June 8, 2006 at 8:56 pm #9386AnonymousInactiveLori – I am sorry to hear that Hailey is sick, it is so hard when these poor eaters are sick, I hope she feels better soon and eats again.
June 8, 2006 at 9:18 pm #9391AnonymousInactiveThanks all. I figured that I probably can’t stop Sarah from bringing home everything under the sun. What can you do? Amber- I hope that Tyler is feeling better soon. Dimetapp actually does nothing for Hailey- I’ve given her so much and her nose is still running non-stop. Tylenol cold actually has twice the antihistamine (?or decongestant…I can’t remember which it is), but seems to work a bit better. We’ve actually been giving benadryl, but even that isn’t doing it. Hope we’re both snot free soon. Sharon- How is Brian feeling?
June 8, 2006 at 9:33 pm #9397AnonymousInactiveLori:
Are you able to get Phenclor Tannate up in Canada? My doctor prescribed it for Abby when she was a “snot fountain” and within the day, it dried her up. Also made her a little sleepy which is a nice side effect. It is a liquid and he said I could save the rest for any time she happens to get a cold.
Hope she feels better soon!!

June 9, 2006 at 9:05 am #9413AnonymousInactiveThanks Robin. The doc said no. Wish we could get it here.
June 9, 2006 at 9:37 am #9422AnonymousInactiveI don’t know if this is the same thing but there’s something called Bromaxefed RF Syrup. The pysician’s assistant at my clinic rx’d it for Eliana once when she had a nasty cold and it really did dry up her nose in about two days. It also causes some sleepiness so I gave it to her at bedtime and naptime. I wish I could buy this stuff by the gallon!
June 10, 2006 at 11:34 am #9514AnonymousInactiveHi Lori,
So sorry that Hailey is not feeling well. Emily has already had about 4 colds since she was born and she is only 4 mths old. Reflux is already bad enough, the addition of a cold jusat makes it a annoying/messy combo. Almost everyday for the past wk, Emily has awaken at night with horrible congestion which causes her to scream so hard that she begins to vomit.
I really do hope ours girls begin to feel better soon!

June 10, 2006 at 3:44 pm #9520AnonymousInactiveThanks Sarah. I hope so too.
June 10, 2006 at 4:07 pm #9524AnonymousInactiveLori,
Have you heard yet if you can get an earlier date for her endoscopy since she is 22 pounds now?
I hope her cold passes soon. It must be so maddening for you….that she just started eating a little, and then she has to come down with something. It does seem like it is always something.
Keep us posted.

June 10, 2006 at 11:31 pm #9543AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry Hailey is sick. And I know how hard it is to get non-eaters to eat when they’re sick. The last time Noah was sick, we went through pretty much the same situation as you are right now : vomiting, congestion, gagging etc. I was going crazy after only a few days. I took Noah to the doc and believe it or not, he actually prescriped an antibiotic for him because he thought the snot was turning into a bacterial infection. Thanfully the antibiotics worked and cleared him up within a few days. Do you think this is a typical cold, or could the congestion be turning into a sinus infection with thick, green/yellow snot?
Thankfully, even though my older two have gotten sick once or twice last year, Noah has only been sick twice since he was born. (Knock on wood). I really get on Alec and Connor about washing their hands and covering their mouths when they cough/sneeze with their shirt sleeve rather than their hands. When one of them is sick, I try to be diligent about using a Lysol wipe on door knobs, remotes, phones, and other things that Noah gets his hands on. I also try to keep them at a distance from Noah if they are sick.
I hope Hailey feels better soon, and I hope you can get a break soon too.
June 11, 2006 at 8:03 am #9551AnonymousInactiveThanks Lisa! I try with Sarah too, but you know how it is with a two year old. Basically there’s no stopping them from wiping snot all over the place, picking boogers, and doing all kinds of gross things. When I tell Sarah to stay away from Hailey she just starts bawling, and she almost always has a runny nose.
