I took Justice off his meds 4 days ago and so far so good, but apparently it will take 2 to 3 wks to know for sure. UGH!!!!!!!!! At this point I’m not even sure what to look for. Well, except the obvious. He has been quite squirmy and sometimes arching. The arching is not always due to feedings. He has some constipation now since taking him off mylanta. Of course, that is probably painful too. Also I think he might be teething. I hate infant reflux. It’s hard enough trying to figure out what is going on with an infant, but then u add reflux to the mix. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t want to blame everything on reflux, but it’s so hard to know. Thanks for letting me vent.
I think I would go ahead and give him some Mylanta. That was maybe he won’t be constipated. You need to be able to notice all the things he is doing so you know if he is refluxing and I think being constipated is only going to cause more problems.
( I know this will sound dumb) but 6 months was around the time Aidan learned how to arch his back, as in he’d do it himself for fun to look behind him…but if Justice seems to be in pain when it happens, obviously that’s a different story!!! many hugs, I hope things settle down soon!!!! Try writing things down in a “justice journal”, that way you can see when things are happening, if there’s a patteren, etc.
I think Kathleen’s idea is a good one….keep giving him Mylanta for a while. After two weeks or so if he seems fine without Zegerid then you can try weaning from Mylanta. Right now you’re actually stopping two meds at once and it may be easier to see what’s working and what’s not if you just stop one at a time.
When I weaned Myles off of reflux meds it was maddening because everytime something was up I’d think “oh, no it’s reflux. he needs his meds.” It was at least a month before I could relax and feel confident that he was ok without it….so I know what you mean. It can be very confusing. If only they could tell us what’s bothering them.
