My dd is 8 months old and has never slept through the night. I work full time, so I am always tired. Lately, it seems she is even more uncomfortable at night. Can teething make the reflux worse? She is on 15 mg of prevacid and that has seemed to work so far. At least she does not scream hysterically like she did in the beginning before meds. My mother babysits my dd during the day and I am thankful for the help. But, it is frustrating when my mother (and many others) claim that “all babies” are like this. I have never had more than two to three hours of sleep at night without having to tend to my dd. I know that it is the reflux that wakes her all night, but to hear that this is normal from people who are not lacking sleep like I am just upsets me. I know that she will eventually sleep longer at night, but for now it is hard. I am also curious-if anyone on here has only one child with acid reflux with the rest of their children being reflux free. It seems like so many people have multiple children with reflux. I really hoped that when she started on solids that her reflux would get better. Now, I am scared it won’t even go away at the one year mark. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Or, you could try giving her some Mylanta or 1/2 a Pepcid Complete tablet before bed to see if it will give her some coverage overnight.
When do you give her the 15 mg? All at once or is it split during the day?March 16, 2009 at 8:53 pm #61676AnonymousInactiveAnother thing that we all seem to forget for teething is to rub a bit of Benadryl on the gums right before bed and that will help with the pain and the increased saliva…. which is partly what aggrevates the reflux… Not to make you feel worse, but my ds didn’t sleep through the night until he was over a year old… but it does get better I promise.

My second child had bad silent reflux and was miserable. She didn’t sleep through the night until well past her second birthday, and even then it was far from consistent. Now at almost 4 she is still a terrible sleeper who wakes and calls at night quite regularly. BUT, don’t let that discourage you. Many refluxers sleep fine, and others who don’t typically get the hang of it much earlier than mine.Hang in there. The sleep deprivation is awful.March 18, 2009 at 7:59 am #61708hellbenntKeymasteryawn. sleep.
I could go for some, too. Not like you though! I cannot compare! (last night my 5.5 yr old woke me up to tell me : “I’m not cofortable in my bed.” I replied, “well, I’m going to make you comfortable- let’s go!”)but no, really it DOES get better! REALLY. read this:and, there does not have to be siblings w/ reflux. ds1 had SEVERE gerd and ds2 was gerd free! there’s hope!March 18, 2009 at 8:36 pm #61726AnonymousInactiveThank you everyone for responding.
