I have a question about vaccines and reflux. Yesterday my son had his 2 month vaccines and today he has been spitting up a lot and in large volumes. He doesn’t normally spit up this much. Do vaccines aggravate the reflux. Anyone else have increased reflux after shots?
July 8, 2008 at 8:40 pm #53584AnonymousInactiveMany babies tend to have worse reflux for a few days after shots. My son luckily didn’t have this problem but I know others on here who have commented about it. So yes it is common but I think it only lasts for a few days.

I like to choose ‘all forums’ and I like to choose from the drop-down menu6 months and ‘older’ (the default is ‘newer’) – I like this so we can glean the wisdom of past postersJuly 10, 2008 at 9:19 am #53661AnonymousInactiveThanks! I found it. I have one more question on this issue. My ped. wants to give Sawyer the oral Rota virus vaccine. I am very nervous about this one b/c of his digestive sensitivities. So, I am wondering what others have decided to do about this vaccine–did you give it/not give it? What were the reactions?

I owul dget it simply becasue if you don’t and he gets roto you will probalby end up in teh hsopital.Jedd ahs ALL 3 rounds of hsi rota. vac. when he contracted Roto. THE ONLY reason why he didn’t go and get admitted is becasue #1 he had 3 rounds already and #2, he has a G tube that I can use as an “I.V, like” at home for hydratin. I can giv ehim a slow drip of pedialtye inot the tube just like an IV except it runs into his gastric instead of his viens. Those were the only 2 reason why or we would have.It is the single most nasty virus Jedd has EVER ahd. It was a might mare that took us aobu a month to fully get well from. You may be nuvous but ge the vac…You won’t regret it.As far as vac. go Jedd gets his spread out. He is on his OWN schedule for them..LOL They really throw his reflux for a loop. His reflus is uncommonly SEVERE though.July 13, 2008 at 4:18 pm #53830AnonymousInactiveI will say that, in the end, I’m glad that we got the oral Rotovirus, but at the time, it really made for some hellish days. Ben’s reflux reacted with each round of vaccines, but the oral one made it worse.
I’m glad that he got it though because dealing with a refluxer trying to recover from that virus would have been SO much more hellish. I would discuss your concerns with your doctor.July 15, 2008 at 8:21 am #53958AnonymousInactiveOooh-more hellish days. I was afraid of that. Well, I am going in today. Wish me luck!

She hadn’t shown any real signs for reflux until the day after she received her shots. Actually, she was a DIFFERENT baby when I brought her home. I felt like the rota was more than likely the #1 culprit. I truly beleive it played a role in her reflux being aggravated. My Ped. did say that the stress of shots can bring on the reflux if it’s something ur LO is prone to. So, in addition to other research, I came to the conclusion that for now it’s best for my LO to be vaccine free. I plan on vaccinating her down the road but not until we get some things under control first. We’re still fighting this reflux & MSPI battle I don’t want to through a wrench into it. If ya know what I mean?! 🙂
It’s definitely a personal decision. -
