Question for moms that had a baby with MPSI and reflux. Did you worry about giving them vaccines? I am worried about vaccinating while his immune system is down. With all the rates of autism this really makes me wonder if I should wait.
March 29, 2009 at 8:18 pm #61871AnonymousInactiveI have 3 nephews on my sister in laws side with autism – and because of my baby’s reflux/gi issues I have chosen to wait to vaccinate until 2. My doctor is not happy with this and I will probably have to work hard to find a new one.
I have done a lot of research about autism – and although no one really knows or agrees, I personally think it is a good idea if your child is compromised in anyway to delay vaccinating or atleast spread them out more. This is a very controversial subject – but I choose to take a cautious approach. Also something I found that is interesting is to give epsom salt baths and use probiotics – these both seem to help gi issues for some.My baby has to use the Necoate WITHOUT DHA/ARA to even be okay – so I am not risking adding more possible stuff into her seemingly fragile system via vaccines.KarenMarch 29, 2009 at 8:37 pm #61879AnonymousInactiveYou have to do what you feel comfortable with. we got all of our shots on time except for our MMR (that seems to be the big questionable one for links with autism) and we didn’t have any major problems, just a slight skin reaction to the chicken pox (which we won’t be doing a booster for until school age). This is a bit of a touchy subject but do what your heart tells you too. You may just want to do a delayed schedule but be fore warned that reflux babies tend to have “flare ups” with shots so the reflux may get worse for several days after shots. But again do what you feel comfortable with. Talk to your doctor and see what their thoughts are and then go with your gut.

I will say that the answer to this question has ranged all over the place.talk to your dr about a delayed schedule if this appeals to you…or try giving the vaccines and see what happens. I will tell you that it has been reported here on this board, from personal experiences, that babies have been known to have reflux ‘flares’ after vaccines. this did happen to my lo. nothing major! I chose to vaccinate him regardless. it’s SO PERSONAL.as with everything with your baby: do your research (maybe not here in this thread, but I mean you can use the search function- go to the top of this page and cklick on ‘search’ & choose ‘from 6 months & OLDER’ from the drop-down menu so you can learn from ALL past posters from even years ago). also research elsewhere on the web… -
