Upper GI (Update)

How well to 3month olds do with UGI’s? Ryan is having one on Friday. I hope that he drinks the barium OK. Should I bring one of his bottles and make the hole in the nipple bigger or use what the hospital gives us?

Well Ryan did great!! He drank the barium no problem. The scan did show slow gastric emptying (which I had a feeling he had) and caught a significant reflux episode too! But his anatomy is normal and I’m glad for that!

Brodie had an upper GI around 3-4 months and he did great. I was so worried he wouldn’t drink the barium, but he did and we brought our own bottle. He even was still for the procedure. It goes pretty quick. Good Luck!

My ds had his upper GI also around 3-4 months. I was also concerned my ds wouldn’t drink the barium. But at that point he was so hungry, he would have drank anything. It gos very quickly and hopefully you have a great radiologist like we did. Good luck!

We had our upper gi at 10 wks and Cooper did great. Like Kristin said he was so hungry at that point I think he would have taken anything they gave him. He downed 3 or 4 oz in less than 5 min.. not good but it sure did show his reflux! We didn’t take one of our bottles to use. He just took from them. If your lo takes from a bottle well then I would just let them use what they normally do. Good Luck.

We took our own bottles and nipples. They cut the nipples the way that they needed them to be cut. They said to bring them because some infants prefer a specific nipple or bottle. They don’t want the bottle to affect the test.
