Savannah’s pediatrician thinks her frequent sore throats are related to acid reflux. She thinks she is belching up in her throat and it’s irritating it. She put her on prevacid 15 mg once daily and she’s been on that for about a month now. She is STILL having frequent sore throats and pretty constantly runs a fever of 100.0-100.5. Right now as I type this, her fever is 100.0. She has only projectile vomited once since being put on the prevacid, but still often complains of a tummy ache and a sore throat. Other than reducing the amount of times she projectile vomits and not complaining of her stomach a few times less than normal, I have not seen much of a change since she’s been on the prevacid.
I am really confused and worried about the amount of sore throats and the weird constant fever she always has. The pediatrician keeps telling me it’s the acid reflux, but obviously it’s not getting better. I am wondering if she could be wrong.Has anybody elses baby with reflux had frequent sore throats and a low grade fever?? I am praying for some responses to this so I can compare. I am thinking of taking her to a different doctor for a second opinion. Thanks in advance for any help or imput!!!!BritanySeptember 22, 2009 at 6:23 pm #63997AnonymousInactivenot sure but would find a doc for 2nd opinion…maybe a gi?
September 23, 2009 at 9:16 am #64003AnonymousInactivehmm maybe its just me.. but how do the fevers go along with the acid reflux??? …
maybe allergies?? i know when i have allergies.. i have a sore throat..and what feels like a low temp… ??September 23, 2009 at 5:42 pm #64009AnonymousInactivehmm, it is rather strange that a doc would think reflux could cause a fever?
Have you ever heard of PFAPA? You might try googling that one. The little boy I knew that had it had the sore throat and fevers like that- they would come and go. No worries, it is not a horrible thing…it was easily fixed by a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy.That is the only thing I can think of that sounds relative! I hope you find out what it is. 🙂jilly782009-09-23 17:44:05
September 23, 2009 at 5:48 pm #64010AnonymousInactiveMy daughter- my non-refluxer- has a chronic elevated temperature. If you google it, you might be able to find others who have the same. Sarah is usually in the mid 99 range, if she’s sick, it goes higher.
The only thing I can think of is that if your dd is aspirating her reflux, she could have aspiration pneumonia/infection, but I haven’t really heard of it.Good luck.September 23, 2009 at 5:52 pm #64011AnonymousInactives&h’s mum wrote:

Landen does not run a higher temp per se, but when at the pedi/ER, etc they always check his temp numerous x b/c he feels so hot to the touch (you would swear your thermometer is broken and that he has a fever) but it always reads normal. September 24, 2009 at 10:45 am #64037AnonymousInactivei’ve never heard of reflux causing constant sore throats and fevers. however, when tianna had her eating disorder and was purposely making herself throw up, she said her throat hurt—-but that was a different situation. i’d go for a second opinion. it almost sounds like your doc doesn’t want to admit he hasn’t a clue what is really causing this.
