Paige hasn’t done much crying today but she sounds so hoarse like she’s losing her voice. It really worries me.
I live in a small city so my doctor options are very limited. I already switched her once and I think there may be one more option. I’m hoping that he’ll be more receptive tomorrow.
When you see Paige she is generally happy until she vomits. Her face curls up, she chokes on it, she screams, and then she’s in mommies arms the rest of the day because she can’t be in any other position. She spits up hours after she eats, sleeps, does anything. It’s so frustrating and I can see she visibly hurts.
The spitting up has always been there but not associated with a lot of visible pain. She use to scream half way through the bottle. When we switched to Nutramigen/Alimentum then the screaming stopped while eating (most of the time) but the spitting up hurts her so much.

michelle’s post about pushing for the right dr: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1002you might have to travel to find a doctor to help your poor baby & you also might have some luck w/ a family doctor…in the meanitime,April 1, 2008 at 10:54 am #49704AnonymousInactiveDo you know I’m actually nervous about going to the doctor. She’s had a better morning although she did spit up 2 hours after she ate but she didn’t scream from it. Of course, that happened 30 mins after her prevacid so I’m assuming that helped some.
I guarantee he’s going to say that she has a bug or caught a cold. That’s what he told me last Friday when I said she’s crying when she spits up. I told him that she hasn’t been sick and he said she probably caught something. Even if she HAD caught something, what is the connection between screaming when spitting up and a bug? I’m not concerned about the spitting up but the crying bothers me. The physical pain on her face bothers me. My older daughter has thrown up plenty of times as a baby and didn’t do this. Figures Paige wakes up with a snotty nose this morning, sigh.
I’m half tempted to take her off the prevacid if he doesn’t do something. I know each day brings its own new challenges and it’s easier to deal with now that i understand more about it. Why keep her on meds that aren’t working?
Also, I know it can take a while to build up but is it normal to only work for 3-4 days and then stop? Plus her dose is so low so I don’t know. I always feel so dumb when I get to the doctor because she looks and acts normal. Then she waits until we’re away to spit up and scream.
April 1, 2008 at 3:29 pm #49716AnonymousInactiveMy daughter is the biggest smiler I’ve ever seen, so of course, when I bring this cute, goofy looking baby into the Dr’s office, they figure “Oh, she isn’t in any discomfort”. I wish I could of timed it right, and gave her a bottle while she was in the waiting room, or on the car ride there, so when that 1/2-hour mark after she drank her bottles came, she’d be screaming, flaring her arms (She sounded like she had laryngitis!) then make the Dr. hold her as she spit up 2-3 oz of a 4oz bottle. (I’d bring the camera, get a picture of it all over his/her lab coat or suit) I hate how some Drs think your child has to be crying 24/7 for a diagnosis of PAIN to be made.
Please don’t make the same mistakes I did…. Although something kept screaming inside my head “Something is wrong with her!!” I kept hoping the Dr’s were right, that she was gonna need time to catch up, she was genetically small…. Now, she’s 6 1/2 months, and actually GOING BACKWARDS. They only thing we’ve actually got a control on is the reflux now. 🙁 Too bad, over 4 months later, someone is actually believing me, sending me to MULTIPLE specialists, because, as he says “now is crunch time, we have to figure out why she’s not growing, this could permanently cause her problems if we don’t.”There ain’t NOTHING wrong with gettin’ a little rowdy with the Dr!!! Better be safe, then sorry 🙁April 3, 2008 at 9:27 am #49797AnonymousInactiveThe doctor doubled her prevacid so she gets 15 mg a day. He also said to try the soy again since her reflux worsened with the hypoallergenic. By last night it was obvious the soy was hurting her belly. But she’s spitting up and not screaming so that is a plus. Lets hope it lasts longer than 5 days. He also recommended thickening her formula so she’s getting extra calories and withholding the real solids until this is more under control.

I think gerber is one of them even though it doesn’t say it on the label. Also I found that taking my screaming baby into the drs. office without an appoitment and also calling when they were screaming helped a lot. Video taping helps as does feeding baby while in the drs. office or right before you go in. We sometimes worry so much about our babies making a commotion, but the drs. need to see them as they are. Otherwise they just think your a worrisome mom. It sounds like your on the right track and I hope things are already better. Justice’smom2008-04-04 09:55:24
