hi everyone.. i thought i’d let you guys know how things are going with shane.
since about 3 weeks ago.. we found out he’s had an ear infection that wont fully go away! we did the shot and oral antibiotics.. than today another shot!! we are trying to figure out his sleeping issues.. and we need to get rid of this stupid ear infection!! and today he came down with a cold on top of it all.
we did the prevacid for about 3 weeks. But as of what we know about 2 weeks of it he had his ear infection!therefore we didnt notice much difference as you would probably think on the prevacid. so we stopped it last friday.. (dont ask me why). and around monday night his sleeping got soo bad.. worse than its ever been! CONSTANT moving. so we found out today he still has an ear infection.. and we had to cancel the endoscopy.. and we put him back on prevacid. because of him being worse for some reason since he has been off.. who knows exactly why.. but i want to be sure he isnt in pain during this trial period.
soo.. here we are with no endoscopy scheduled. my ped. would like to first get us into an allergist.. with in the next week or so. and he also mentioned about me talking to the GI about upping his dosage possbily if we see no difference with the prevacid… so we can really rule it out..before he sends us for an endoscopy. oh yeah, and he knows how i would love to give the goats a try.. soo that is on the list somewhere after the allergist.. and before the endoscopy.
i am a little disappointed because i was ready to go with the endoscopy. i am not sure really what to think.. i guess it makes sense to rule out less invasive procedures first.
i just really am hoping his ear clears up soon.. and we’ll be able to see really how the prevacid works.. and what the allergist has to say.
keep us in your prayers~ i need all the prayer i can get to not let this whole thing drive me up the wall…. hopefully the end of this is near.

It’s so frustrating when you wait forever for these appointments and then end up having to cancel them. I’ll definitely be praying for you. I hope you can get everything figured out soon. Hang in there!
May 9, 2007 at 8:38 pm #32753AnonymousInactiveI am so sorry to hear about Shane! Those ear infections can be sooooo pesky! I’m wanting to trial milk but can’t until Sarah feels better…so I know how you feel! I hope that everything clears up soon so you can try to get a clear picture of what is going on. Did the ped. say what would happen if his ears don’t clear up? It’s a 3 round shot, correct? What dosage of prevacid were your trialing and what was your ped. willing to increase it to?
It probably does make more sense to try the less invasive things first…I just know how badly you want ANSWERS and don’t want to play the guessing game anymore.
Your family will be in my prayers.
May 9, 2007 at 8:45 pm #32757AnonymousInactiveOh, poor Shane! These lousy ear infections can really make life miserable for some babies. And to think he may be uncomfortable from reflux as well. I feel so bad for him and I will certainly keep him in my prayers.
May 9, 2007 at 8:59 pm #32762AnonymousInactivethanks everyone.
Amy, he is on prevacid capsules.. 22.5 mg’s.. i am not sure what he will want me to go up.. he told me to ask the GI if there is room for an increase if i dont see a difference. i told him i didnt think they would up it because after the first week of his med trial.. i told the GI nurse i didnt see a difference at all and all she told me was that i should see something by now, and that maybe the meds arent the answer.. and she didnt mention to me about upping it. My ped. didnt really say much to that. but i’ll ask for the increase anyway after the ear infection goes away. (i am sooo desperate its not even funny.) but anyhow, i dont know why my ped. wouldnt just tell me to up it..i guess he doesnt want to interfere with the part that has to do with the reflux.. who knows..
May 9, 2007 at 9:42 pm #32771AnonymousInactiveI can honestly say, I saw no improvement when we moved Gabby up to 22.5mg. We were on it for a month and then moved up to 30mg.
At 30mg, she is finally taking awake bottles. At 30mg, she started sleeping 10 hours a night. Gabby is 17 1/2 lbs. I’m sure Shane is bigger. There is room to move up. It’s at least worth a shot. Obviously, it’s possible it’s not the answer, but I’d rather give it a try than wonder. Hopefully, your doc feels the same way.
GabbysMom2007-5-9 21:43:17May 9, 2007 at 11:37 pm #32778AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry things are a bit “chaotic” at the moment for you and Shane. It must seem like you are always chasing the reflux/formula/infection tail around and around in circles. Hopefully a new perspective from an allergist can start you all on a new track.
May 9, 2007 at 11:53 pm #32783AnonymousInactiveOh no. Yucky. Have you tryed the hyland’s ear ache tablets? They worked great for Justice. Not a guarentee, but it could possibly help. I hope so anyway. I hope things get better soon.
May 10, 2007 at 8:53 am #32788AnonymousInactiveo.k so last night was a lot better than the past few nights.. MUCH less movements. and i DID NOT start the prevacid yet.
so, what would you guys do? i am thinking of letting the ear infection completely clear up before trying the prevacid again. i dont want to be confused with what is making him better circle again.should i do that? he just got his shot of it yesterday. and i have another appointment to get it checked up on wednesday.
another reason why i think the past 3 night were so bad.. is because i stopped his prevacid all in one day and i didnt wean him… soo.. maybe it was a reflux flare from that? and he is settling down more now. its like back to his old self.
sooo any advice? if i start it i would like to do it tonight.

May 10, 2007 at 3:13 pm #32831AnonymousInactiveThat is a tough one…do you think being on the PPI made his sleep worse before? If not, I would probably try the PPI to be on the safe side. Urgh…not really a good answer for this one. I hope the ears are better soon!
May 10, 2007 at 5:49 pm #32847AnonymousInactiveya.. i decided to just give it! i really would like to cancel out meds once and for all and see if he really does need them. sooo.. i guess its better to start them now and when it clears up..i’ll really know than.
and i have an allergist appt for the 24th 🙂
May 11, 2007 at 2:23 pm #32883AnonymousInactivegood luck! I hope you guys have some answers soon for Shane.
May 11, 2007 at 3:51 pm #32899AnonymousInactiveI would def. wait till the ear infection clears before the prevacid to avoid the guessing game. Jeeze… I’m so sorry about the endoscopy. i hate when something comes up for those appointments that you’ve waited so long for only to to have to wait another month or two. Maybe he needs tubes. If the tubes get mentioned… what I’ve heard from numerous mothers …. don’t turn the option down. I heard the tubes were life savers for moms and kids of repeat ear infections. I do hope that He feels better soon. Poor guy. I hate when our kids are sick.

May 11, 2007 at 7:10 pm #32922AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry about the ear infection. We seem to have the same rotten luck with these tests- we had to cancel Hailey’s EEG twice, and she was sick the day of her scope, but because it was only a small cold they did it anyways. Good luck.
