We got test results back and he was negative for egg and “mild” for milk.
We have been testing out gentlease along with the alimentum, and he has be okay, not great. No mucous or rash, but SOOOOOOOOOO cranky. He has two teeth about to erupt and a cold. I am taking him in in a few hours to check for ear infection…I am having such a hard time trying to decipher if the formula is a culprit at all, even just a little bit.Would you go back to the alimentum, just until all the other things are resolved, or vice versa??September 27, 2007 at 3:06 pm #43402AnonymousInactiveYou sound so much like me! I had a similar question about babyfood vs teething etc. Turns out it WAS the tooth. He was fine as soon as the tooth erupted. So for us that is what it was. Sounds like he’s miserable sick. If it were me, I’d feel terrible if his stomach hurt TOO though. I’d prob do his old formula until he was 100% better, then re-trial gentlease maybe in a few weeks?

September 27, 2007 at 8:12 pm #43418AnonymousInactivei agree.. if the test came back “mild” then i would stick it out with the alimentum a bit longer anyhow. shanes came out the same.. but he has been much better since when i took him off the goodstart.
i would try again when he about a year old.. to give him time to outgrow the slight allergy anyhow. but i know alimentum can be rough money wise.. i would then wait until you know he is happy and things have been good for a while.. then try again.let us know what happens!September 27, 2007 at 9:05 pm #43421AnonymousInactiveSarah had a mild milk intolerance as well. I say “mild” because she never had rashes or mucousy diapers, just a lot of fussiness on milk based formula. She had pretty much a constant ear infection from 6-13 months old until we got tubes and along with the ear infections, teething has always been miserable for her. Long story short…all of the “guessing” made me stick with alimentum until she was 14 months old. Looking back, I’m glad I could keep things less complicated by sticking with alimentum. However, I’ll always wonder if she could have tolerated a milk based formula sooner. With all the other factors, it just wasn’t possible for us to trial any sooner without all the “what ifs”. Hope that makes sense.
I know how it feels to want them to be able to tolerate something. Maybe until those 2 teeth are definitely through you could hold off and try again. I wouldn’t try it though when you KNOW he is teething. Too many factors. Oh the joys of parenthood!

Of course, with us, we also had Kaelyn’s history of allergies, so we wanted to do anything to avoid her allergy becoming a life long problem.
