ugh, is this normal?

ok, so Aidan has been off his mega high augmenton dose for about 4 days. In the last 3 days or so of taking it EVERY diaper he had reeked of the medicine, pee or poop, we knew when he needed to be changed b/c of the smell.

I understood why that happened while he ws taking the medicine, but now here it is 4 days after and it is still happening. Could his kidneys just be taking their time flushing it out of his system? When I mentioned thisto the ENT he said “huh, well that’s not normal”…very encourageing…any thoughts? He has an appt with his ped next week, I just thought I’d ask y’all.

I don’t really know Jill, but I know that even once they stop taking it orally, the antibiotics usually stay in the system for several days to a week (I believe) after to keep fighting the infection.

I don’t know about the smell, but Ben always gets horrible diarrhea when on antibiotics, and it is usually several days after finishing him before his poos go back to normal.

I was just going to say the same thing. Very original Kate’s diapers are sometimes strange smelling being on antibiotics which her ped said was normal and it DEFINATELY takes more then a couple of days I think to get the meds out of her system. Just my mommy observation of her. HTH

ahhh ok, it makes sense now, I didn;t realize that the antibiotics stay in their system for a while after theyh have stopped taking them. The smell is a lot lighter now, it was just weird b/c that’s never happened before and he has been on antibiotics for what seems like more than half his life!!! Thanks guys!!!!
