we’ve just recently learned that our oldest son and his wife are expecting twins in august—–pretty exciting!
January 12, 2010 at 7:48 am #65444hellbenntKeymasterwhoohoo!!!
do they live near you?
twins must be from your side of the family?
or both?
so interesting!January 12, 2010 at 5:19 pm #65449AnonymousInactivetwins come from both sides of our families—both kevin’s and my grandmother had twins, and my grandmother’s aunt had 3 sets of twins. it is actually my step-son and his wife that are having twins—-but he calls me mom and when he calls the house it is usually to talk to me, not kevin.
they are actually planning on moving to burley in the next few months. rhonda is kind of home-sick—-they live about 6 hours from her mother. if they move here, she is only about 3 hours from her mom, plus her grandmother lives here and she grew up in this area.
i can’t wait to find out what the babies are girls, boys, or one of each.kraig married a really nice gal—and she and her mother used to run a daycare, so i think she’ll do great with twins—plus, she’ll be close to us if she needs help.January 12, 2010 at 5:32 pm #65450AnonymousInactiveVery exciting! Congrats!!! Funny, when I saw the title of your post, I thought that you were pregnant with twins!!!!

January 13, 2010 at 9:13 pm #65465hellbenntKeymasterso cool! THREE sets of twins? I know someone w/ two sets of twins and I thought THAT was odd/interesting…I think when it’s like that, then the woman ovulates/drops two eggs at a time? so not identical…
are the twins in your families both kinds – fraternal and identical?love this stuff!
January 14, 2010 at 3:13 pm #65478AnonymousInactivemy aunts that are living–my moms younger sisters, are identical, but i don’t know about the 3 sets of twins or about kevin’s aunts. kevin’s aunts both died when they were infants.
we have always assumed our twins are identical because they look so much alike—but we never did the blood work. my 10 year old, samantha, had a twin that reabsorbed. we didn’t know it until delivery. there was still a small fluid sack in a pouch attached to the placenta. we thought it would have been great to have two sets of twins—of course, samantha has enough personality for herself AND her twin that reabsorbed!!!years ago i read an article about disappearing twin syndrome. (twins that reabsorb) sometimes they are reabsorbed into the other twin and have to be removed later in life. it was pretty weird stuff. i always thought it would be neat to have identical twin girls—never dreamed it would really happen. i didn’t know i was having twins until i was 6 1/2 months pregnant. i remember being in awe for the next day—-i couldn’t believe there were two babies in there.kevieb2010-01-14 15:17:04
January 14, 2010 at 8:14 pm #65487hellbenntKeymastermore curiosity: are there two placentas w/ both kinds of twins?
Somehow I thought that identical twins were in the same placenta? ok but as I type this that would mean only one umbilical cord…so if they’re w/ two umbilical cords, etc, then when they’re floating around together in there, they’re not really touching? or I suppose they touch through the placenta?
excuse the rambling lol!January 15, 2010 at 12:18 am #65491AnonymousInactivei think that there is a lot of confusion about twins. twins in one fluid sack is a more risky condition than twins in different amniotic sacks—–it leaves more chance for the cords to become tangled. when we were staying at the ronald mcdonal house in seattle a couple had twins. they showed us a picture the docs had taken of a giant knot that their babies’ cords had been tied into.
i think that identical twins can be in separate amniotic sacks but have only one placenta. i think that the placenta can also divide like everything else and that identical twins can have separate sacks and separate placentas.my twins were in separate sacks and it looked like only one placenta before birth—but turned out to be 2 placentas when they were delivered. we were told they had a 10-15% chance of being identical—but it cost too much to do the genetic testing. i wish i knew how to post pictures so i could show you all how much they actually look alike—–they’ve got to be identical. when i develop old rolls of film i cannot tell which girl is which—–and i always thought i could tell them apart so well. i still get them wrong sometimes if i am not paying attention, even though kassie is quite a bit bigger than tianna.my sister lost a set of twins because the placenta did not completely separate and there were blood vessels that crossed back and forth. it is called twin-to-twin transfusion. one twin was getting too much blood and the other was not getting enough. to try and correct the imbalance, the one with too much blood would urinate more and it was causing too much amniotic fluid in one sack. normally they would cauterize the vessels with a laser, but her babies were lying in a position that made it impossible to do. both babies died right before delivery. my sister said the nurses cleaned them, dressed them, and brought them in for them to hold. the baby with extra blood (and fluid) had a darker complexion because of it.January 15, 2010 at 11:06 am #65506AnonymousInactiveCongratulations!
January 15, 2010 at 8:13 pm #65520hellbenntKeymastertwins are so exciting! I would think that it could be nerve-wracking, but luckily they have you!! yay!
January 17, 2010 at 8:16 pm #65553AnonymousInactivewe loved/love having twins. we only knew we were having them for 6 weeks before they were born—so we were scrambling to get doubles of everything—and i was down for half of those 6 weeks in bed. we didn’t know about all the things that can go wrong until after they were born.
