I can’t tell if this is a stomach bug, or just bad reflux that Hailey has. She’s usually silent reflux, but three weeks ago, she had a cold and then vomitted everything she took in but only at night- I think due to coughing or post nasal drip.
Now she doesn’t have a cough or a cold anymore since finishing antibiotics, her ear infection is clear. But since Friday night she’s been vomitting all night and in the day too. She can only keep down water and is feeling lighter and lighter by the minute.
I’m just not sure if it’s a stomach bug or reflux though- there’s no diarrhea. Just vomitting.
She hasn’t had meds since Friday b/c she’s vomitted them up, and I keep hearing her reswallow and she started arching again and crying during an episode.
Any thoughts? I just can’t figure this one out.
December 11, 2006 at 1:04 pm #20038AnonymousInactiveLori, just got back from peds office… we had the same symptoms (throwing up day and night, not keeping anything down for more than seconds, back arching, extreme fussiness, several sleepless nights). stella actually had a fever too. doc diagnosed her with pediatric gastroenteritis – aka stomach flu – because she had no major reflux symptoms like these prior to this. ahhhh– don’t you just feel like baby is 2 months old again with all that reflux, inconsolablility, and such! you may want to get her checked out. doc says this is the “virus of the season”! GREAT!!
December 11, 2006 at 1:29 pm #20039AnonymousInactiveThanks Christy. Hailey had the same symptoms a few weeks ago, that’s why I’m not sure. Also she’s been sick all week, and for us that often means reflux from hell- projectile vomitting etc. That’s why I can’t figure it out. As for the “virus of the season”… great… hopefully it’s our only one! (Ya, right, wouldn’t that be nice!)
December 11, 2006 at 2:00 pm #20043AnonymousInactiveHi Lori,
These lousy viruses can mutate and then infect us again, especially babies because they don’t have the immunity that we have. Also, there are numerous different strains to begin with, so you can get one bug one week and another one the next. After this last scary episode with Myles I’m tempted to stay home all winter.
Maybe she’s arching and crying now because she’s not keeping her meds down. It must be so miserable for her and for you. I really feel for you. It was bad enough with Myles and he’s reflux free now. I hope she’s better soon.
December 11, 2006 at 2:02 pm #20044AnonymousInactiveTay had the vomiting a few weeks ago, at first it went along with congestion and a temp, but after a week all of that cleared up but she was still vomiting and it really seemed like for no reason since she still was happy. The virus most likely was still in her system and was fully out yet therefore her symptoms were better but the vomiting persist for another week until she was better.
December 11, 2006 at 2:31 pm #20049AnonymousInactiveThanks guys. I’m just petrified that it’s a reflux problem and not a GI bug. I don’t know why. I guess these vomitting episodes have bee becoming more frequent. We have towels all over the carpets and rugs in the house. And the vomitting bile was frightening. I hope it’s just a GI bug and that it passes soon.
December 11, 2006 at 3:18 pm #20056AnonymousInactivei know why you are worried lori—-because you are just like me! LOL!! i’ll bet it is just a bug that has thrown her reflux for a bit of a loop—-i’ll bet you see things calm back down in a day or two.
