Ben’s tube surgery is Tuesday. HOORAY!!! He just finished his third antibiotic, and I’m pretty sure that this current infection still isn’t cleared. He definitely needs these tubes.
Mom’s just a bit nervous about the whole process. The whole sedation thing has me freaked out. Can any of you who have been through this process give me some idea of what is going to happen?November 18, 2007 at 10:21 pm #45594AnonymousInactiveI was really soooooo ready to get it over with that the whole going under didn’t bother me too much, plus working in the medical field etc…. We went in about 6 am no food or milk after midnight the night before. Admission and prep which is vitals, etc takes about 1.5 hrs, took him away and was back in 20 minutes it was all over. They kept him back in recovery about 30 min and he came out screaming. The nurses were like “I think this kid needs his mom” cause they brought him out of recovery early.
I basically got him dressed and we were on our way. You will be able to feed him right away when he comes out. We took home a bottle of drops for his ears- an antibiotic that we used for just a few days. I think that was really it.He took one more nap than normal that day, but that was it. I was home by 11 am. AND– he’s slept like a log ever since. It was the miracle sleep cure for us!! Nine months without sleep and suddenly he has basically slept through the night since! I know his ears were the last fix after figuring out the formula, ng tube, etc……Hope it all goes well and he should be good as new for the cold season! Owen has had 2 colds since his tubes 4 months ago and has slept good as gold!!! I’ve had his ears checked at appts recently and they say tubes are in and look good!!!Good luck!!November 19, 2007 at 3:58 am #45599AnonymousInactiveNo expereince but wishing you a smooth and trouble free surgery day.
November 19, 2007 at 6:42 am #45601AnonymousInactiveI hope all goes well. I am sure he will do just fine. Just think you may have a more wonderful than usual Thanksgiving thanks to these tubes. Good Luck.
November 19, 2007 at 8:48 am #45603AnonymousInactiveIt is never easy to have to bring our little ones for surgery, but it is VERY quick. the whole time from teh time they take him in to the time you are back in recovery with him should be about 15 minutes. It will be so good for him, though!!!!
Good Luck!!Ann MarieNovember 19, 2007 at 4:00 pm #45605AnonymousInactiveDitto all above comments. Taylor was hysterical when she came out of surgery where I couldn’t even calm her down. They let us leave with her earlier than usual since she was so upset. She fell asleep in the car after screaming and crying for some time, she slept for another 2 hours when we got home. She woke up very hungry and in a good mood and ate very well. We had to give her ear drops for 1 day and that was it. She had 2 ear infections shortly afterwards about 1 month after the surgery but has been good since.

It was miserable. Within 30 minutes though she better, took a good nap on the way home, and by the next day she was back to normal. Some people say their kiddos were completely normal the SAME day but we weren’t that lucky.
This sounds very uneducated of me not to have known this…but I’ll give you a heads up. Apparently when you are put under, you can feel nauseous the rest of the day. Having never been ‘put under’, I was unaware. Sarah seemed starving for lunch so she ate 2 full servings of baby peas. Needless to say she absolutely projectile puked green peas ALL OVER my mom!!! So don’t overfeed him like I did Sarah! Wooops!
I am so excited that his surgery date was bumped up and I KNOW this is going to make all the difference for him. I’ll be thinking of you guys. Looking forward to an update!
