Tomatoes

I’m on week 4 of dairy free. Things seem to get better for a while and then start acting up again. We had four good days of diapers and then today was just pure slime and a streak of blood. I thought about last week and when she had worse diapers. They were all the day after I had meatloaf (made with ketchup), chili macaroni, and spaghetti. Do you think my little one is allergic or has an intolerance to tomatoes?

It’s just odd that her diapers are much much worse after eating tomatoes. I wonder if that is why her intestines aren’t healing because we eat tomato products once to twice a week. Are tomatoes a protein thing like milk? Will it take 4 weeks to see if this is the problem. I don’t want to do TED if this is our answer. Let me know what you think.

Oh Kathy, I don’t know for sure but if you remember Denise, Dagney’s mom, she found out after they tried many med wean trials that tomatoes for Dagney’s trigger food that flared her reflux. She doesn’t come on much any more and I believe her screen name was dfb05(may want to do a search to double check) but I know that once they were able to get the tomatoes out of her diet she was able to be wean her meds… now I do believe she was 2 yrs old, but it could be bothering your lo. I could not eat tomatoes when breastfeeding jonah! no eggpant or tuna or citrus either….but thankfully, I could eat milk & soy and everything else. weird!

It could def be tomatoes bothering her. I am not sure about protein or if is enough to cause blood. I suppose if the intolerance is bad enough to irritate the colon it could cause issues. Every time DS2 has them he also has mucousy stools and reflux flares.

It’s in his list of no-no foods. It’s hard b/c we had pizza last night (my DS1 turned 4) and DS2 cried for pizza, I ripped all of the cheese off and most of the sauce and he looked at me like he got TOTALLY jipped. lol I am praying the small amount of sauce he got won’t cause too many issues.
