So…I have 5 1/2 month old twins (adjusted age 3. 1/2 months). They have mspi and I have eliminated dairy and soy from.my diet as I.am breastfeeding and there has been some.improvement with the crying(they are still unhappy most of the time, just less so) They were on zantac which didn’t seem to do much. I took them.to the pediatric GI who saw them.cry and spit up and and arch and DL what they do, and he switched them.to.pepcid and gave me a talk about how the PPI ‘s are infested in children and he doesn’t want to.go there, etc etc. (This was Tuesday) since the switch they have been getting more miserable/scream and spit-uppy. I switched them.back to the zantac today…but not sure where to go from here since we are in a small state and I went to the only Pediatric GI practice in the state and if he isn’t gok g to put them on a PPI…who will? I am.about to.look at info here about making my own.PPI infant medicine since apparently that will be my option other than live with the screaming (x 2) for the next t 7 months). Rather go.rogue than go.to.jail

June 1, 2013 at 1:03 pm #72267hellbenntKeymasterI’m still here!!!
please research all you can!
the board is over-run w/ spam & I don’t think you can respond, as I’ve locked the forums down to try & clean up this HUGE mess, but the info should all be here!
use the search button, upper right-hand corner of the board- search using key words and go 6 months & OLDER
go back to zantac
if you have to make it yourself, you can!

I have a LOT to say and most of it’s here, in a link called ‘groupie intro.’
It’s looOong but TRULY will help you-
read through it, refer back to it, scroll through it/skim through it.
You’ll find yourself coming back to it!

June 9, 2013 at 7:36 pm #72302AnonymousInactiveI have been trying to search to see how to make something out of omeprazole, just in case, but searching is slow (and truthfully, I haven’t been super persistent in trying yet…not desperate yet!). They have been mostly okay. The pepcid was horrible…they screamed and screamed and then I changed them back tonzantac, which is mostly okay. I think a bigger problem is if I accidentally eat something soy or dairy. No matter what, they spit up copious amounts, but the dairy/soy makes them extra miserable. If I am good with ymy diet, they are happy and pleasant. Hoping this keeps up, but am trying to research making my own just in case something changes.
Thanks for asking…and I will definitely keep you posted.
June 9, 2013 at 9:28 pm #72305hellbenntKeymasteryou can’t ‘make’ your own prevacid- you can ‘make’ your own liquid using zegerid and prilosec (zegerid has prilosec in it) – it’s in ‘prevacid 101’

Reasons a breastfeeding mother might think her baby is reacting to something in her milk:
*poop that is not ‘normal’ mustardy yellow, seedy breastfed baby poop
*mucous in poop; mucous can look like: snot, jelly, cottage cheese, stringy like the inside of a banana
*foul-smelling poop
*stinky, foul-smelling painful gas
*straining and grunting to poop and, when baby finally does poop, it’s soft
the TED takes two weeks and then you start adding foods in to see what you CAN eat.
Research all you can! You are your baby’s best advocate!

June 19, 2013 at 7:20 am #72358AnonymousInactiveThank s for asking! We had their 6 month visit yesterday and one is not gaining well. I was supposed to call the GI Dr with their weights after this visit, but I didn’t get a chance to yesterday. The ped wanted me to feed her one thickened bottle a day, but from.what I have read that can exacerbate food.allergies and make reflux worse, so.I have not done it yet.
They DO seem much more content and dare I say, HAPPY!, but believe that is as a result of me not eating dairy/soy. They still spit up constantly and their poop is still weird. Other than the poor weight gain (4oz in 6weeks) on the one, twin i.would.feel like the problem.is mostly under control. The ped. was acting like he thought it was a supply issue, but that makes no sense to me as the other twin is gaining fine. So not back to square one, but still trying to figure everything out.
June 19, 2013 at 9:43 am #72360hellbenntKeymasterYay!
…the spit up won’t stop…it might, but really what is important is the pain…you can have a ‘happy Spitter, which is a ‘laundry problem’
Since you’ve seen good results w/ your diet….you might just want to jump in & try eliminating more…but, before you do (or, as you do), are you reading ingredients & really checking to make sure that you’re avoiding *all* hidden milk & soy proteins? There’s a list somewhere do hidden ingredient names (the search button is your friend – go back 6 months or more)
Have you been to an international board certified lactation consultant?
She’ll weigh hungry (non gaining twin), watch you feed, & then weigh twin again. It’s amazing they can tell how much they eat!
I’d also DEMAND a Swallow Study – maybe there’s something w/ her suck/swallow that no one’s seeing? Just trying to rule everything out…
I’m with you, FORGET the thickening. For WHaT? This is another ‘reason’ you TELL dr you need swallow study.
Do YOU notice the twin eating less? Being more difficult to feed? As for supply, do you have a strong let down? Try feeding skinny twin off same breast as other one, so she gets more fatty hind milk?

June 19, 2013 at 10:32 am #72365AnonymousInactiveI have been super diligent about reading labels….usually the only time there are any issues is when I go to mils for dinner, but now that I know she isn’t as careful I demand an ingredient list or check her labels and eat before or after!
I saw a lc a few months ago ( when transitioning to breast frombottles) and we did the weighing bbefore a d after testing and she was fine with the amount she got.
I have been feeding her second most of the time. She also tends to be more mellow and less demanding( and also sleepier) so I wonder if she just gets less as a result of that or ifshe just keeps less down. I have been sneaking in more feedings at night before i go to bed and anytime i get up to feedthe other one. The sleepy feeds tend to result in less spit up also….i JUST started doing that a frw days ago though…so i don’t know if tbey are helping.
June 19, 2013 at 1:57 pm #72366hellbenntKeymasterwell, it sounds like you have things down pat, lol. you ‘could’ work on your diet more, to see if the poops get better, but it’s hard now that they’re eating solids…
my skinny baby did much better w/ baby-led solids than with me feeding him with a spoon…he was my second child, my non-refluxer, & he would not eat! I wound up researching & reading about baby-led solids and this is what worked! it was amazing for him! he was 7 months old.
basically, it’s about giving them chunks of food and letting them be in control – I was scared at first, but I was curious and worried, etc, so I tried-
there’s a post somewhere here where I posted about my son- he was 7 months old and I covered up his high chair w/ a hefty garbage bag and sat him in the seat and gave him a WHOLE (ripe!) banana (unpeeled, lol), the whole thing!
well, he got some into his mouth & voila! he started to eat better- I gave him chunks of foods like sweet potato, steamed veggies & fruits, etc- BIG chunks! and it was easier to go from there…
try it?

June 19, 2013 at 5:25 pm #72373AnonymousInactiveI did that with my son! In plan to do that with them.when I start them on solids though. They are not on solids yet. They are six months, but four months adjusted and are not ready (despite what my mother has been telling me for three months!). Hopefully with the small.twin it is just a matter of her being less demanding and now that I am.making an concerted effort to feed her regularly despite her NOT demanding it, it will help. If not…I don’t know. By the time we get it all sorted out they will be ready for solids! I do have a scale here that I can use that measures in grams and is legal.for trade, so I this accurate, and I can rig it up with a basket to be a babyweigher and I have done that in the past. michelle9972013-06-19 17:27:09
June 19, 2013 at 5:26 pm #72374AnonymousInactive(I did NOT do the garbage bag trick though….that seems pretty handy!)
June 19, 2013 at 6:30 pm #72377hellbenntKeymasterwe seem to be pretty like-minded
I agree w/ you about when baby is ready- for me it was being able to sit up unassisted w/o toppling over and able to bring hand to mouth, so I’m with ya
