Our son has sever reflux and has stopped breathing well over 100 times in 2 years. We have a great pedatrician who listens and values our opinion. First thing we did was to buy and apnea monitor…but our Doctor recommended and angel care that you can buy at WalMart. Our son would be dead if it were not for this monitor. It was only $100. It is a pad that goes under his crib and detects his breathing and if he stos for 20 secs it goes off. It has saved his life many times over. Our new born daughter also has reflux and we got her a monitor as well…the safety of knowing that you can sleep and your babies are beeing monitored is worth the money. Second we avoid the car seat as much as possible. The doc told us that a car seat is the worst thing you can do to an reflux baby. We only used it when absolutly necessary. The third thing was to have our baby sleep on a reflux wedge at a 45 degree angle…but our baby had to sleep on his stomach -that is why we needed the monitor. Our doctor told us it is sometimes better for reflux babies to sleep on thier stomachs in the 45 degree position..only do this if you have a monitor. We also bought a bouncy sets that was on a 45 degree angle…make sure thier feet are not raised up – some seats have them up to high and thier feet are up like in a car seat…find a bouncy seat at Walmart or Sears that leans a far back as it can. It worked miracles for our boy. He loved it and make sure it vibrates..soothes thier little belly. Also our doctor didnt mess around he immedialty would put Rylie on the highest dosage of Zantac for his weight. We won’t allow a doctor to simply try dosages out. We do not want our boy suffering and when we say he is needing more our doctor trusts our judgement and adjusts it accordiingly. Be forceful with your Doctor and let them know that you are in control of your childs health care. We know the frustration of reflux we know have 2 reflux babies – these simple suggestions worked for us – helped settle things down. Hope this helps
Wow! You’ve been through this 2 times! Thanks for the post! I am following the exact same routine. I have the wedge and sling and I use the apnea monitor every night. I am renting my monitor, but I think i will go purchase the angel care one from walmart. The one I have now goes off all the time and scares me sooo bad. Thanks again for all the info, i hope some of the other mommies take your valuable advice!
