What should i do???
Since Xmas day when Kaylee woke up with a chest/ear infection things have gone downhill. She took a course af antibiotics and her chest and cough have gone and i presume her ear infection has too as she is no longer pulling on it.
But now i *think* she is teething and things are just as bad, she has gone back to hardly drinking milk although she is still eating solids so far, not napping well, nightime sleep is joke she must be waking at least 10 times a night and is back to the back arching, tenseing up and not sitting up routine
To be honest i think i have had just about enough of all this after 10 months of non-stop reflux problems. The diet and allergy meds have def helped but the GI seems to think that her reflux is secondary and caused by the food intolerances hence he sees prevacid as the least important drug out of all the ones she is on. I don’t know about this but we have been told not to try weaning her until the summer which is fine with me as i can still hear her refluxing alot.
Anyway i have upped the prevacid to 22.5mg now, 7.5mg three times a day and it is still not helping, we are back on the zantac after managing to wean this do you think i should up the meds anymore??? We have tried Maalox and this doesn’t help.
I have def not eaten anything i shouldn’t have so i think it is teething, she has no teeth yet but keeps chewing on everything and seems in pain but of course its the reflux pain which is the worse and the teething pain seems small to her compared to this.
Any ideas?? Does it ever end?? I just cannot see an end in sight and everyone saying it gets better as they get older seems to ring in my ears as all lies btw the GI said most children outgrow this at 5-7 years thanks alot for that

I’m sorry to hear things are so bad again. I definitley think the teething may be aggravating her reflux (many moms here have noticed that with their babies), and her Prevacid dose is low to begin with. She’s probably not only outgrown it but needs more now because of the teething. I’d push for the marci-kids dose for her.
Your gi’s reasoning that Prevacid is not that important because her reflux is caused by allergy/intolerance doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. If acid is backing up into your esopagus and burning you, what difference does it make WHY? She needs pain relief regardless of the reason.
Have you shared the http://www.marci-kids.com information with your gi? That’s what finally swayed my son’s doctor and the high dose really did stop his pain.
Are you giving her tylenol or motrin for the teething pain. When Myles was cutting some of his teeth he would not eat unless I gave him tylenol or motrin 30 – 40 minutes before feeding him.
Good luck and please keep us posted.

I’d be willing to bet she’s teething, Aidan is a horrible teether, his teeth take forever to come in, motrin is great, but I only give it at night. He loves frozen wash cloths. Can she eat any fruit? I still freeze fruit and put it in the baby safe teether for him, plus ice cubes work great in there. My sister rubs benadryl on her son’s gums and swears that works (I asked an er doc about that though and he looked at me like I was crazy however). 5-7 YEARS??? ok I don’t believe that, maybe in very extreme cass. Could he have meant that reflux babies can still have issues with heartburn til 7, but not really severe reflux, just intermittent if they eat something that disagrees with them???
I thought Aidan was reflux free when he was 9 months btw but nope, it flares up every time he gets sick especially when he has ear infections (he has tubes now) and horribly if he had a cough, the coughing makes their little throats raw ( I’m assuming on this one b/c I know when I cough a lot my throat hurts a lot!!), and with the reflux on top of that I think that it takes longer for their throats to heal after a bad cold with a lot of coughing!!
I hope she feels better soon!!!!!!
