After months of waiting for the developmental pediatric MD appointment, today was the day. The MD and diagnostic team were great, she really interacted with them. I knew in my heart that the word AUTISM might most likely will come up but I did not realize how it would really effect me emotionally when the offical diagnosis comes up as yes, Taylor falls in the Autism Specturm, she is mild to moderate with Sensory Processing Disorder. It is strange but I knew that was going to be the diagnosis yet to actually hear it from the MD was completely different, and my emotions are just all over the place. She’s still my beautiful little girl, but I have never been down this road before nor do I know of anyone that has, I’m just loss for words right now. Thanks for listening!!

I am so sorry for you guys. I hope that you are able to find a good autism support group in your area to help. And always remember that even though we are “reflux pros” we are ALWAYS here to listen if you need to vent.

I agree with Beth…we may think that we are prepared and then the moment finally comes it’s more difficult than we thought. HUGE HUGS to you Sue. I know that Taylor is an adorable and sweet little girl. I hope you’re able to find the wonderful support you need…and again…we are all still here for you!!!
August 14, 2008 at 7:08 pm #55363AnonymousInactiveI work at a center for autistic children. i DO NOT work with the autistic children.. but.. i do watch and observe a whole lot. I also speak with plenty of the parents and find out how they feel and what they do for their children. The therapy is GREAT.. if you can find a center that works specifically with autistic children. Plus many of the parents have put their children on the Gluten/Casien Free diet.. and have seen much success! As well as finding other vitamins/supplements to add in their diet that they are missing.
I am sure Sherry will help you with this diet if you are interested.. I know her son is diagnosed with sensory disorders as well.Hope you find more help and support! And remember Autism CAN be helped or better yet reversed.August 15, 2008 at 8:13 am #55378AnonymousInactiveHUGE hugs, Sue!! A good friend of mine told me before Kaden’s dev. pedi appt. “Jill, no matter what diagnosis you get today, kaden will still be the same perfect little boy you’ve always known, he won’t be ANY different after you leave, you will just be able to better help him afterward”. 🙂 Just wanted to pass that on to you.
August 15, 2008 at 9:19 am #55383AnonymousInactiveI can’t imagine. It has to be hard knowing the “official” diagnosis, but in a way it’s a good thing too. Now you know what you can do to help better her. Hoping all the best for you and your family!
