Ok, so I started Tummy Care Max on Monday, 9/July. When I figured out the dosage for my DD, it 7.7mg 3x day (I just do 4 mL, or 8 mg, as it’s easier to round up that little bit). Now, through all my research I have read that PPI’s are one of the most safe meds to give infants for reflux because of the way the med works (you know, with the body only using what it needs to shut off the pumps and the rest excreted). However, that last time I was at the ped and I broached the topic of increasing my DD dose because she continues to have symptoms, she gave me a loooong lecture on how the probability of “severe side effects” increases with higher dosage and she was not willing to increase her dose. Mind you, the previous dose was 2mg PER DAY – which is how I landed with TCM and doing my own thing. But I digress.
So, fast forward to starting TCM – I am nervous (because of the lecture) about doing the 3x day dose so I have only been doing 2x day. Of course, my daughter continues to have symptoms – continually coughing, choking, silent refluxing, arching, not sleeping well, the works. So basically, I think I just need some reassurance for adding the third dose. I’m just so nervous that she will get some wierd side effect or adverse effect from taking too big of a dose, but I can’t stand seeing her so uncomfortable. Thanks for listening to me vent – it was a long night!July 16, 2012 at 10:39 am #70539hellbenntKeymasterME, I would do what you gotta do. IF you see results, then HA! if after 2 weeks at the proper dosing you don’t see results, then post here, lol…

July 20, 2012 at 7:41 pm #70554AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry that your baby is so uncomfortable and that your doctor is giving you stress. 🙁
My Ped GI said it was ok to give my 6 month old 30mg of Prevacid short term. I had already been giving that much to him for awhile without the doctors approval though. Both of my children were on Prevacid till ages 2 and 4. At probably a month or 2 old they were taking 15mg a day. Of course at that point I knew of nothing else to do for them although Prevacid only partially covered up their symptoms. Not long ago I was doing some research on side effects of Prevacid on babies and found a very interesting article. Read here. I can’t say that I agree with everything it says but it was still interesting. 🙂 I do not know that my children have side effects from the drug and probably many children don’t but I do believe that it is possible.
I was very happy though to find other ways to treat my children’s reflux and milk intolerances and have written them in a blog. Finding Answers
I hope that you soon find help and answers for your little one!
