2 days after I left a message, Will doctor (or I should say his nurse) finally called me back. I asked about upping his meds or anything else we can do to give this poor baby some relief. She said that hes already on the highest dose of Prevacid that he can get at his age. There aren’t any other meds they want to try since he isn’t responding well to the Prevacid. They told me to start feeding him more solids, more cereal. And if that doesn’t work, well we’re SOL. She actually said. “He’ll grow out of it eventually” Now does that sound like a bunch of bull to anyone else!? They pretty much said hes a lost cause, go home and wait it out. Theres got to be something else that will work for him! seriously. I know there is. Hes only on 3ml. 2x daily of Prevacid 3mg. We need to find a new doctor. I also asked about switching both my boys to the Solutabs, the doctor said no… it wouldn’t make a difference what form of Prevacid they are on.

Most of them just aren’t up to date on reflux and how to treat it. You could try maybe taking them to your family doc. Lots of moms have had more success there because those doctors tend to deal with reflux all the time in their adult patients.
Also, I would go to the Marci-kids site and print out the info. and fax it to the doctor. Ask him to read through it, and please to let you try upping the dose in the solutab form. Keep faxing and calling… and looking for another doc!Good luck.March 6, 2008 at 11:50 am #48866AnonymousInactiveThat makes me so mad! The type of med may make a difference, especially b/c the compounds often aren’t made correctly. Can you tell your doc that your son hates the taste of the compound and won’t take it anymore, hence the reason for wanting to go to the solutabs.
In the long run though, I really think that it’s important to have a doc on board with you, and if this is his attitude and knowledge, then you’d be better off getting a new doc. Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find someone!
March 6, 2008 at 11:56 am #48868AnonymousInactiveI think we’re going to switch clinics all together. I’m tired of being put on hold for long periods on time and then having to leave a message. Its just an over all icky situation.
We live in Minnesota.March 6, 2008 at 1:32 pm #48870AnonymousInactiveI swear if these docs don’t know what to do then they should refer you to someone who might be able to help. I luckily have not experienced this, but if I had I don’t know what I would have said. Be proactive you are the only advocate for your little guys. Luckily you found this site and there are so many moms on here that can tell you what to do and where to go. I would look under the specialist topic to see if there is someone in your area that one of the other moms has seen and go to them at least you know they will be flexible with meds/doses. Best of Luck.

March 6, 2008 at 9:03 pm #48881AnonymousInactiveThis may be a crazy suggestion, but but how far is Minnesota from Missouri? Marci-Kids is in Missouri, is it a far drive for you? Has anyone actually ever GONE to Marci-kids, or is it not that kind of a place, do they see kids there, or just do research? Just a thought, but either way, you need to keep pushing and pushing until someone listens and gets your baby what he needs. Best of luck and stay strong!
March 7, 2008 at 12:59 pm #48886AnonymousInactiveThere is a clinic affiliated with the University of Missouri, marci-kids is the research lab. But they do work together. There have been 1 or 2 people who have gone there. All I know is that they follow Dr. Phillip’s dosing generally, but not sure much else about how they treat.
March 14, 2008 at 12:00 pm #48999AnonymousInactiveMy GI is telling me basically the same thing. He is saying that he can’t give increased dose of prevacid. only next thing is endoscopy. my question is what if that is normal? so what if it shows damage, isn’t prev treating that? it would be good for allergy testing, but i don’t feel that we’ve been using the correct form of prevacid (per this site) and i want to give that a 2 week trial before the endoscopy.
good luck finding a new doc, i’m in the same boat. so frustrating…April 29, 2008 at 12:54 pm #50965AnonymousInactiveI just wanted to tell you that I COMPLETELY feel you with the whole doctor thing. Right now the ones I have been seeing keep telling me he is fine because he is putting on weight..and that he is a happy spitter. Plus him staying awake from 9am till 1 am in the following morning is normal…I am seeing a different doctor tomorrow……but I am so frusterated with this bunk they keep telling me when I know my kid and he is suffering and in pain and not happy at all. I mean Duh! We are the moms of these beautiful children and with them 24/7…its like they think we dont know anything and that we are full of it…Sadly my little guy is getting worse and now within the last week his eatting has decreased and his breathing is showing signs of apnea…which I have mentioned to the doctor…but to him he is fine. I dont get it…and the one thing that scares me is that he will stop breathing….is that what it has to take for the doc to get a clue! God forbid I hope not! And they really need to start educating doctors about the GER and GERD…plus start learning that MOMS KNOW BEST!!
