stridor…

Sam is almost 10 months old, and the last few days has been making a gaspy sound when he breathes in. We took him to the dr. on saturday who thought it could be the beginning of croup and gave up steroids as a precaution but no croup and it’s wednesday now (we stopped the steroids on monday). Sams lungs were clear and they did a neb treatment just to be sure. It doesn’t seem like he is making the noise on purpose (dr.’s second guess) bc he did it last night at a feeding in the middle of the night…after he was done eating and was definitely asleep. If it is “just” stridor, isn’t it weird for it to suddenly start at his age? Any other ideas?

does he do it when he is awake, or does it seem to start up right about the time he falls asleep? the reason i ask, is because sylvia developed obstructive sleep apnea after she had her fundo done. i can’t remember for sure when it started, but she would be fine during the day, but as soon as she fell asleep, she sounded like she was gasping for air and struggling to breath. it kept her failure to thrive until she was 2 and she had her tonsils and adenoids removed. when they can’t breath well when they are asleep, they don’t get into the deep sleep they need—that is when you produce the most growth hormone.

He mostly does it during the day, but i’ve heard it on occasion at night. This is all just in the last week or so.
