Anyone have experience with calprotectin tests? I just got the results on my son’s lab work and it was 241. Normal is 0-50.
We started Elecare last week. Should it improve the inflammation? Should we retest him after 2 weeks??
June 4, 2009 at 9:54 pm #62769AnonymousInactivetwo week is too short of a time, but the Elecare should help the inflamation improve some in about 6 weeks. Be aware that if your child has a corn allergy, Elecare might not take acre of all the gut problems.
June 5, 2009 at 2:37 pm #62778AnonymousInactiveCorn allergies are pretty uncommon, right? But I also have wondered about a reaction to corn. I had noticed all of the elemental formulas have a lot of corn syrup. If corn is the problem what formula is left that is also for MSPI??
June 5, 2009 at 2:46 pm #62779AnonymousInactiveNo, they are not uncommon, but a lot of children do well on elemental formula. I don’t know of any formula that doesn’t have corn syrup in it. I did a lot of research for my DD, who is allergic to Corn, and i couldn’t find any. We put her on a very retricted corn free blenderized diet. When she turned 2. Maybe somebody else can jump in and help.
How old is your child?June 5, 2009 at 2:54 pm #62780AnonymousInactiveHe is almost 5 months. We haven’t started solids yet because I am pretty nervous. What are your feelings about allergy testing? The ped GI said they are pretty unreliable at his age.
June 5, 2009 at 10:52 pm #62787AnonymousInactivei would stick with the elemental formula for a while and if he does well, i would wait on testing. Yes, allergies testing are not 100% reliable; sometimes and elimination diet and a journal work best.
June 7, 2009 at 5:31 pm #62801hellbenntKeymasterthere IS a formula w/o corn…something made by Ross I do believe?
sue posted here about it…not sure how to find it (WHAT? me? lol! I’ll try)does this link work? https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search_results_posts.asp?SearchID=20090607172957&KW=ross+formula+cornif not, go to upper right hand corner of page, click on searchthen put in keywords: ross formula cornchoose all forumsand on the right, choose from the drop-down menu six months and OLDERJune 8, 2009 at 9:05 am #62816AnonymousInactiveHere is the list of formula and i don’t see any without Corn.
Here the Ross website: http://abbottnutrition.com/products/products.aspx?pid=236If you still have issues with your little one being on Elemental formula, i would talk to a nutritionist about a homemade formula. Most modern nutritionist don’t like this idea, so you have to reserach. If you get stuck, let me know, the one we hired for my DD was open to this idea if her diet did not work. She has a website and is very reasonable.kendramom2009-06-08 09:08:28
June 8, 2009 at 9:08 am #62817hellbenntKeymasterthanks Kendra. the links from the search point to similar posts and sue (alexis & taylor’s mom) posted something similar to what you’re talking about- making her own w/ rice syrup- but I *thought* she also used something from Ross…anyway, I hope the links help!
