I am really depressed right now and just finished giving Brodie a bath because he vomited his whole lunch everywhere, not that he ate much, I am sure there was breakfast in it too. Anyhow, he had a bad stomach virus in Feb. that lasted 6 days. Then last Monday he had a lot of gas and vomited twice. Thought is was just a fluke, sent him to his sitter’s Tues. he did fairly well, but had a bad diarrhea diaper, runny yellow mess. Tuesday night he threw up after dinner and his lunch was still undigested in his throw up. Then, Wed. morning he threw up on our ride to his sitter’s house, which was just awful. He was sitting in throw up for 20 minutes as I drove home, because I had no change of clothes or any towels. My heart was breaking for him. He did o.k. the rest of the day Wed., then Thursday he went to his sitter’s, and he didn’t eat very well, and had a bad diarrhea diaper that ran out of his diaper. He also refused dinner. Friday he did o.k., still not eating much, but no diarrhea or vomiting. Yesterday, he did o.k., one bad diarrhea diaper with a piece of solid stool, but didn’t eat great, no throw up though. Now today, day 7, he was doing pretty well, had a solid poop, although it was yellowish, and then after lunch, got all flushed looking on his face and quiet and threw up everywhere! Does this really sound like a virus? I am getting quite concerned now. I kept thinking we were at the end, but it seems like it just keeps on coming. He had gained back the 1-1/2 lbs. he lost from the last time, and now he is down 1-1/2 lbs. again. I can’t stand to see him like this and I am crying as I am writing this! Please, does anyone have any experience with this or any advice?

For her it was multiple overlapping viruses that left her vomitting just b/c her system is so sensitive. The slightest illness and it’s puke city around here. Hope it passes soon.
March 18, 2007 at 3:10 pm #27758AnonymousInactiveHi Lori, I have been avoiding the dr., one because of exposure to other germs, and two because I figured it was a virus and it had to run it’s course, but think I will call tomorrow. I hate to jump and go there and it kept on seeming like it was passing, because he would do ok, then wham, a set back. Do you think it’s a virus? RLM4262007-3-18 15:10:57
March 18, 2007 at 3:59 pm #27769AnonymousInactiveIt sounds suspicious Robin- all the vomitting and diarrhea. If it was just vomitting, then I might think reflux. Does he have EE by any chance? Has he ever had an endoscopy done?
Funny, b/c just after I sent my reply, Hailey woke up choking on vomit. So the fun’s starting over here too. She’s not generally a vomitter unless she’s sick, so something must be brewing.
March 18, 2007 at 9:00 pm #27778AnonymousInactiveMyles had rotavirus once and he vomitted and had severe diarrhea for six horrible days and then still a few more days of loose stools and no apetite. So I do think a virus can go on that long.
I know what you mean about avoiding the doctor’s office. It seems like everytime we set foot in that place one of us gets something we didn’t have when we went in. Maybe you could just call and ask what they think. A lot of times when I call they can tell me that this or that virus is going around that’s what it sounds like.
I hope he’s feeling better soon.
March 19, 2007 at 3:46 am #27792AnonymousInactiveRobin…I hope your little one feels better soon (and you don’t have to deal with the spew and poo).
March 19, 2007 at 9:05 am #27802AnonymousInactiveHow is he today? Hailey’s got a brutal cold and is puking up a storm around here.
March 19, 2007 at 12:21 pm #27819AnonymousInactiveI took him to the dr. this morning. He hasn’t thrown up today, and no diarrhea, just a soft light brown stool. He said he couldn’t find anything else wrong w/ him and said his stomach felt good. Brodie was complaining his stomach hurt this morning and didn’t eat much for breakfast. The dr. said I could try a 1/2 teaspoon of Immodium up to 4X a day to help settle his tummy. He also gave me lab work for stool tests later on this week if it continues. I feel frustrated and want my little boy to be healthy and enjoy eating again! He lost 1-1/4 lbs. so far!
I am sorry Haily is sick, I can’t wait for winter to end!!!!!!!
March 19, 2007 at 1:21 pm #27831AnonymousInactiveI’m with you on winter ending!!! Cold and flu season is wearing me out! Both the kids are sick, and Sarah has another fever which likely means a seizure around here.
Anyhow, I hope that he’s feeling better soon. It’s hard to see them be sick for so long and lose weight.
March 19, 2007 at 3:55 pm #27849AnonymousInactiveThanks Lori, same to you. I love the new pic of the girls!!!!
March 22, 2007 at 4:56 pm #28220AnonymousInactiveRobin,
Taylor just got hospitalized for Rotavirus, we actually just got discharged today! She was doing the same thing as Brodie! See if the MD would take a stool sample and check for Rotavirus? There is nothing you do for it, but it is very contagious, and high risk for dehydration! It caused horrible stomach cramping and spasms. Taylor had the stomach flu over Christmas which lasted for almost 2 weeks, she finally but back weight from that and now we are down again! She is actually feeling better now but we will see how much weight she has loss on Monday with the follow up appointment. Hopefully Brodie feels better!
March 22, 2007 at 5:35 pm #28229AnonymousInactiveSue, that’s terrible! I hope that Taylor is feeling better soon.
March 23, 2007 at 9:01 am #28269AnonymousInactiveOh Sue, I am so sorry to hear about Taylor having rotavirus. When I took Brodie to the dr. Monday, he didn’t even mention rotavirus, but Brodie is doing much better. I’d say he is pretty much back to normal since Wednesday. I just don’t even want to bring him anywhere to expose him to germs. It’s so sad when they are sick like this. I can’t wait for winter to be over. Taylor has had such a rough start, I hope she stays healthy for you! HUGS!!!!
March 23, 2007 at 5:47 pm #28305AnonymousInactiveI hate cold and flu season, but other than that, I find there’s coxsackie season, and then summer virus season. Our ped says the summer viruses have mutated and are actually worse then the cold flu viruses. (Hope I didn’t depress you!) Hopefully there’s better days ahead…
