OK, it’s compounded with the sodiumb? -NO flavor and it’s 3mg- dose 1/2 tsp 1x a day. thoughts…anyone?!?! Please!!!!
June 30, 2008 at 5:36 pm #53227hellbenntKeymasterwhat does the bottle say? how many mgs/ml?
it should say ___mgs/mlJune 30, 2008 at 5:37 pm #53228AnonymousInactiveit says 3mg/ml
June 30, 2008 at 6:09 pm #53229AnonymousInactiveThat would be 7.5mg and you are only supposed to give this 1x/day? If that is true I would give it at night before bed (the compound does not have to be timed with a feed). Then I would use the Zantac etc during the day as I think the prevacid would work better at night. If I were you and this is just me, I might give the dose 2x/day to see if it helps b/c the 7.5 is a low dose. That is where we started and when all was said and done we were on 15mg 2x/day so you have lots of area for upping the dose. I am sure Laura can give more advice. Hang in there it does get better.
June 30, 2008 at 6:19 pm #53230AnonymousInactiveI dont understand…how does 3mg/ml convert to 7.5??
June 30, 2008 at 6:25 pm #53231hellbenntKeymaster3mg- dose 1/2 tsp 1x a day
this means that one time a day, you give 2.5mls of liquid.1/2 tsp = 2.5mls
your bottle says 3mg/mlthis means for every one ml of liquid you give, there is 3mgs of prevacid in that one ml.so you are giving 2.5mls of liquid, because that’s 1/2 a teaspoon.so 2.5mls is1ml + 1ml + .5mlsand 1ml has 3mgs& 1ml has 3mgsand 1/2 ml has 1.5mgsso you’re giving 7.5mgs a dayJune 30, 2008 at 6:28 pm #53233AnonymousInactiveSo Laura do you agree this is very low? The pharmacist said she’s never prescribed anything hihgher then this. Do you recommend I just give it to her 2x a day anyway??
June 30, 2008 at 6:40 pm #53234AnonymousInactiveInitially we were only prescribed 5mL 1x/day (compounded) & I still split it up to 2 x/day. (but used Zantac 3x/day still)
June 30, 2008 at 6:41 pm #53236AnonymousInactiveDid it work? I dont know how to get a larger dose, the ped said this is high already?!?!
June 30, 2008 at 6:48 pm #53237hellbenntKeymasterI am not a medical professional. I cannot tell you what to do…
what I can tell you is what I (& I think others) told you:1) give zantac along with the prevacid. give it 4hrs seperate from the prevacid.I would give the highest dose of zantac for baby’s weight. I would not ‘just’ take my word for it! I would look at the links I’ve given you…Baby weight 10.11 ozso let’s say baby is 10 & 1/2 lbsthat’s 4.8 kilosmax zantac is 10mgs per kiloso 4.8 x 10 = 48mgs total for the dayyour bottle of zantac should say 15mgs/mlso 48 divided by 15 = 3.2that’s 3.2 mls total of zantac for the dayyou can split this up however you wantexample:1ml.7mls1.5mlshowever which way you want to go…2) FAX YOUR DOCTOR. Refer to post above.3) try your best to go through the posts in this thread4) If, after checking out http://www.marci-kids.com , and after reading through posts, etc, YOU FEEL that you want to give your baby more prevacid, then you most certainly would not be the first mama to take matters into her own handslet me tell you that a ‘conservative’ ‘high’ dose from 5 years ago was 3mgs per kilo. so, at that ‘conservative’ high dose, your dose would be4.8 kilos x 3mgs = 14.4mgs of prevacid a daythat’s 3mgs/ml on your bottleso that’s 14.4 divided by 3 = 4.8mls of prevacid-someone please check me!hellbennt2008-06-30 19:17:34
June 30, 2008 at 8:00 pm #53240AnonymousInactiveIs this typical of reflux?? To suddenly have a day of nonstop screaming and refusal to eat? Why now???
June 30, 2008 at 8:06 pm #53241AnonymousInactiveEvan is 10lbs & his “range” (per marci-kids) was 18-24 mg/day (we ended up getting 22.5) SO I agree Laura that the 14.4 would be a ‘conservative’ ‘high’ dose (as you put it-lol). & yes, your calculations are correct 🙂
June 30, 2008 at 8:10 pm #53242AnonymousInactiveWhere do you guys live and HOW did you get such agreeable doctors?! THe pharacist said she’s never seen a dose as high as Marci-Kids prescribes and my isnurance wont even cover it at 7.5(I had to pay $140)!!!
June 30, 2008 at 10:05 pm #53247AnonymousInactiveI’m in Sarasota, FL, but to be honest I’m very grateful for my general ped.
I faxed all the info from marci-kids (plus a letter like laura suggested) to both my Ped GI & our general ped. The Ped GI wouldn’t even consider a higher dose than 10mg/day. General ped read all the info & called in the script same day.We also had to pay around $120 for the compounded suspension b/c insurance didn’t cover it. They covered the solutabs though (after being preauthorized w/ a diagnosis).Hang in there & just keep being proactive & aggressive for your little one!I know exactly how you’re feeling right now b/c when things were the worst of the worst (w/ the baby) my 2yo was fed up w/ the crying & was whining all day, baby was crying all day & dh was out of town.June 30, 2008 at 10:09 pm #53248AnonymousInactiveIs it working for you??? I know my ped isnt going to give it to me – I feel so hopeless. I brought in the merci pprwk today and ped deferred to our local childrens hospital instead.
