When will I learn to read labels????? I just now realized that the cooking spray I have been using all week on the pan when I make my turkey burgers has soy in it! Is that enough that I would have to start the 2 weeks all over?? This will be the second time b/c I just realized last Sat (after 7 days) that the rice milk I was using had soy in it.
I am supposed to do the poop sample card- things next week and return them to the dr so they can check for microscopic blood. They told me that 10 days would be enough.Should I start over and count today as day 1? I didn’t use the spary tonight since I read the label before I made dinner.December 11, 2009 at 9:16 pm #65065AnonymousInactiveHi,
I just noticed your baby’s bday is the same as my little girls 9/9/09 and I had a VBAC (vaginal birth after csection) so the date wasn’t planned…Anyway…. I talked to my GI and the soy she told me to avoid was SOY PROTIEN. Not all soy had to be avoided. So I’m not sure all of your details as this was the 1st time I read any of your posts.I am not sure if mine is MSPI but I have been avoiding all things made with milk, butter and also just added soy protien to the list. I still have things made with soy as it is almost impossible to avoid soy.I would ask your GI before you drive yourself crazy.December 12, 2009 at 6:55 am #65069AnonymousInactiveThanks for the reply! This is so hard to figure out! I noticed your daughter’s meds- how do you dose them in terms odf spacing the PPI and the zantac? Also, how does she sleep? Grey barely naps and night sleeping is hit or miss.I am losing my mind! (Not that there was much there to begin with…)
December 12, 2009 at 2:43 pm #65074AnonymousInactiveI hear ya… Just when I thought I had it all figured out.. she had a bad afternoon today and I can’t tell but I see a pin drop of red in her diaper just now… blood??? who knows?? And I haven’t had any dairy or soy protien at all!! So what the heck is it???
And I was just thinking I had it under control!! Ughh…Anyway, I give her the PPI in the morning – I usually try to give it to her right when she wakes up for the day usually around 7am and then I wait a 1/2 and then feed her. I do this because she usually ate around 4am that night. If she wakes up at 7am and seems like she is really hungry then I feed her and then wait 1 1/2 and then give her the PPI and wait 1/2 and then feed her. It works best to give it to her when she 1st wakes up but today had to do it the other way. Then I give her the Zantac 2hrs from the PPI (GI Recommended) usually around noon. Then the PPI again at 5pm after her nap for the day. Then the Zantac before bed 8pm or so.Do you have Grey’s crib/bassinett proped up. Because I notice that she will wake up if I lay her down and she has a burp stuck. I get the burp up and then she will fall asleep again. My husband is upstairs right now with her because she was sleeping and then woke herself up.My husband looked at her diaper and doesn’t think it is blood but who would know. How does Grey do in the car seat?I just recently changed her from her infant car seat (travel system one) to the Britax Decathlon one. She would scream in the other car seat and this one was doing good until today!!How much does Grey weigh?Hang in there… this is what I try and tell myself! But then I beat myself up with maybe it was something I ate and it is tearing me up inside trying to determine whether or not formula would help her. We have done so well since Nov 23rd so hopefully today is just a fluke and it will too pass!December 12, 2009 at 4:57 pm #65075AnonymousInactiveI am so sorry to hear about your bad day. It’s really hard to have good ones and then BAM- a bad one jumps in. Hopefully, it’s just today.
Grey weighs about 12 1/2 lbs- maybe more now, since the last time he got weighed was last week. Puttingon weight was never an issue- thank goodness. He does sleep propped up- when he does sleep! It’s so hard to tell- he will sleep fine with me, but the minute I put him down, he starts wiggling. I am so turned around I can’t tell whether he’s in pain or just mad that I put him down. He sleeps in the car seat as long as the car is moving! Occasionally, he will go longer, but not much. Doesn’t slepp in swings, chairs, etc- I have tried it all.We don’t get to see a GI until Jan! It’s killing me to wait so long. His ped doesn’t want to “push the envelope” as far as meds go, so not getting much help there. I really wantto continue BF, but I also wrestle with the idea that formula might be better for him if he does have intolerances. This diet stinks and I worry that it’s making my supply low. What don’t I wory about these days??!!Thanks for your advice about the dosing. Maybe I will try it that way- I figutred it was better to give him the PPI as close to bedtime as possible, but then I don’t have “time” for another Zantac dose. At this point, I will try anything…Thanks agin and good luck with the rest of today.December 12, 2009 at 5:32 pm #65076AnonymousInactiveI don’t know the diff btwn prilosec and prevacid. My little on is on Prevacid solutab 7.5mg twice a day. So it sounds like your dosage is low. It wasn’t until I moved to the twice a day that things got better.
Did your Pedi prescribed that dosage? See if they will bump it up.
I kept calling my GI to see if they had cancellations to get in sooner. Also this is real important to give on an empty stomach on Prevacid not sure about Prilosec. Hopefully Hellbent will chime in or do some research out on other posts to see.She just woke up from a nap and seems like she feels better. I gave her some Cherry Mylanta before her rest maybe that helped. Are you giving any Cherry Mylanta?December 12, 2009 at 5:47 pm #65079AnonymousInactiveHe is on the Pevicid solutabs-7.5 2xday and 1ml zantac per our ped. According to marci-kids, he could have another dose, so I have doubled his second dose. I think I am going to add a second dose of Zantac at bedtime-I just gave him his second dose of the Previcid. It’s a pain with the solutabs-they told me to dissolve it in 5ml of water and then give him 2.5 ml of that. I can’t tell if he’s getting enough in each dose, it seems like there is so much of the granules left. Usually I wait until 30 mins before his bedtime feeding, but as I said, I am going to try adding another Zantc dose.
I use the mylanta as well, but not to often b/c I wasn’t sure when I could give it to him in relation to the other meds. Talk about feeling like a mad scientist!I am so jealous that she naps! Does she sleep through the night, too??!!December 12, 2009 at 7:52 pm #65082AnonymousInactiveOh I thought your signature had something else.
Here is what I do with the solutabs. Take a sharp knife and cut the pill half. Put the half tablet in a syringe and put 3mls of water in it. Then you can put it in his mouth – twirl the syring around so you can get all of the tablet in his mouth. Then you will know exactly how much he is getting. The way you are doing it doesn’t seem like the best way.I give her the mylanta when she is haveing an attack which doesn’t happen as much today was the 1st time I gave it to her in awhile. If she is having a bad day she doesn’t nap too often. And sometimes I put her down and she wakes up. Like right now she was nursing fell asleep and was asleep when I put her down and then she started to wiggle and woke up and now she is up.Sleeping at night – no she doesn’t sleep thru but she does sleep pretty good. Down at around 8 or 9 then up at 3 or 4 and the up at 7.But my son who is 3 1/2 was the worse sleeper in the town. Now that look back I think he had silent reflux because he was the worse sleeper nap and bed. He put me thru the ringer with that. So I am grateful for her sleeping habits but she has the whole allergy/sensitive and reflux thing. I don’t know which one is worse! How are Grey’s symtons have they gotten better and you just have the sleep issues?December 13, 2009 at 8:47 am #65091AnonymousInactiveI just updated the signature- it did say something else, so you were right!
I tried the dosing like you do and he slept from 9-5! Now, he has done this before occasionaly, so I am not going to get too excited yet! This whole thing started back when I called the dr and said he wasn’t napping- very hard to settle and didn’t stay asleep. He didn’t cry much, or at least I assumed he was just fussy b/c he was tired. As the sleep didn’t improve, they kept changing the meds. I did see reflux signs as time went on, mostly silent reflux. And I do see an improvement in that since we started the previcid. We are on day 10 today. How long before you saw an improvement? My 4 year old had reflux but once we started Prilosec, he was fine. And he still is a great slepper- 2-3 hr nap a day and bed from 9-7! I was spoiled!December 13, 2009 at 8:49 am #65092AnonymousInactiveSorry to keep bugging you, but I was wondering what you eat/avoid as far as the soy protein. I am so sick of turkey, rice, and potaotoes! Are things wikth soybean oil OK or is that considered a protein?
December 13, 2009 at 5:27 pm #65105AnonymousInactiveSorry didn’t respond sooner was out this morning.
As far as the soy is concern I asked my GI doc and she said to just avoid the soy protein. I was okay with all the other soy’s, soy oil and soy lethicin. Just avoid the things that said soy protein. Not bugging don’t mind.December 13, 2009 at 5:31 pm #65106AnonymousInactiveThe things I do not eat are things made with milk, don’t drink milk or icecream, butter, sourcream any cheese – basically all dairy including things made of whey.
I don’t eat anything made with soy protein.I also have noticed that when I eat eggs she vomits more.So started to cut that out too.It is important to give them the Prevacid on an empty stomach.Does he burp a lot or does he sound bubbly or does he pull his legs in like he is in pain.My little one, screamed a lot and vomits a lot. She wet burps and stiffens up in discomfort.I forget did you see a GI doc?December 13, 2009 at 5:33 pm #65107AnonymousInactiveSorry I have to go back and read what you said….
I saw an improvement right away when we adjusted her meds to 2 a day.I think you should see an impovement with the times I suggested. Keep me posted.December 14, 2009 at 8:26 pm #65121AnonymousInactiveThanks for the help. I really don’t think I ate a lot of soy protein, other than soy milk. There was soy oil in some things and I had been avoiding them as well, but after reading yours and other posts, I guess I don’t have to worry about that as much?
We see the GI in Jan, but I am on their cancellation list in case anything else opens up sooner. Figures that called me for Fri afternoon last week, but he had his upper GI that morning so I couldn’t go b/c they wouldn’t have had those results yet. Still haven’t heard back from the ped about the results- will be calling them tommorow. He really “only” fussed/screamed about an hour or so after he ate. He did/does wet burp and gets stiff. Sometimes he stiffens himself up when I try to put him down in his bouncy chair or swing, but as soon as I pick him up, he relaxes. So I don’t know if he was in pain or just didn’t want to be put down- or both. At this point, I feel like I have no motherly instinct anymore; I look at everything he does and wonder if he is doing it b/c he is umcomfortable. It sucks-pardon my language. I just feel like I have spent so much time worrying about this that I never had a chance to enjoy this little baby time and that really makes me so sad. Not to mention the fact that my poor 4 year old has so little time with me to himself b/c I am usually dealing with a baby issue. My poor little man must feel so neglected. Oh, all this guilt is horrible!December 15, 2009 at 7:48 am #65126hellbenntKeymaster/* Style Definitions */

structural abnormalities,it is *not* good to verify reflux: it is a snapshot
in time, if you were, so if baby doesn’t happen to reflux at that particular
time of the test, then a dr might be quick to dismiss you & tell you reflux
isn’t there/isn’t bad. The way to show reflux is a ph probe, where the actual length
(duration) & frequency (how often) of reflux episodes are recorded (I think
actually the acidity is measured as well? Thus the ‘ph’ part of the test?)…another ‘Barium Swallow’ is a Swallow Study, where
they look at *how* your baby swallows and they look for aspiration of liquid
into the lungs- they try various thickness of liquids to see how your baby
swallows them
